DEC Seizes Over 300 Hectares of Suspected Criminal Assets in Chirundu

By Ruth Chayinda

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has seized large portions of land in Chirundu District belonging to Aaron Zulu, who is alleged to have operated under the alias Lawrence Paul.

The land, believed to be proceeds of crime, has now been forfeited to the state.

DEC Director General Nason Banda stated that among the seized properties are:

9.5 hectares along the Zambezi River

70 hectares near Chiwena School, which include existing structures

10 hectares along Siavonga Road

During a joint press briefing, Mr. Banda also revealed the seizure of:

43 hectares in Mwiingi Village along the Kafue River

170 hectares of farmland near Zamtel Farm

He noted the case was complex, but the court ultimately ruled in favor of the forfeiture.

🔰Chirundu Faces Imminent Disaster Due to Human-Animal Conflict :

Chirundu site and service area is a key entry point for wild elephants.

Recent months have seen the world’s largest land mammals roaming freely in the site and service area, near the famous roads leading to famous sand pits commonly known as Zambala.

The elephants are drawn to the sweet, sour taste of masau fruits.

Local residents are exercising extreme caution and calling for measures to control the wild elephants.

There is an urgent appeal to local authorities to intervene and manage the elephants, which are increasingly approaching human settlements.

If drastic measures are not taken, it is highly likely that someone will be attacked by the animals, as more elephants are seen near Chirundu site and service homes, cautions a Chirundu resident.

Press release

CHIRUNDU TOWN COUNCILL KICKS OFF 3.2M ROAD REHABILITATION UNDER CDF. Chirundu District 26/07/2025.

Chirundu Town Council has commenced the grading and spot gravelling of feeder roads across the district following a directive by Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema, aimed at improving connectivity in rural communities.

Speaking after a monitoring tour of the works in Chirundu Central Ward CTC Assistant Director of Engineering Kaumba Saihemba highlighted that project includes grading, shaping, gravelling, and compacting the roads.

Mr Saihemba added that the road works will be done in all the 12 wards, with the local authority to commence works with Kadunga and extend the grading to other parts of the district.

Eng. Saihemba revealed that government released K3.2 million (three million, two hundred thousand kwacha) to Chirundu Town Council for fuel and lubricants for the machinery carrying out the works as a maintenance grant under the presidential initiative program to rehabilitate feeder roads.

He has however implored, community members to support the project by creating a conducive working environment for CTC engineers and workers to ensure its timely completion within the timeframe.

And Richard Muyunda a resident of Chirundu Central welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely stating that many roads in the areas had become impassable due to potholes.

Mr Muyunda has since thanked the local authority for embarking on grading the roads in the district as it will be easy for members of the community to access health care services and the market place.
