Thank You, Mr. President, for Listening to the Cries of the People of Chikankata!
For years, the people of Chikankata have endured the hardships of a deteriorating road network, particularly the Chikankata-Kasamu road. This vital artery, spanning over 30 kilometers, has been a source of frustration and economic stagnation for the community. Despite numerous appeals and the looming rainy seasons, progress remained elusive.

However, recent developments have brought a renewed sense of hope and gratitude. The government has mobilized funds to upgrade the Kasamu-Chikankata Mission road to bitumen standard, signaling a significant commitment to infrastructure development in the region .

This advancement is not merely about road construction; it's about restoring faith in leadership and addressing the long-standing needs of the people. The decision to prioritize this project demonstrates a responsive governance approach, attuned to the voices of its citizens.

As the community anticipates the commencement of construction before the end of September, there is a collective sense of optimism. Improved road infrastructure will undoubtedly enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and improve access to essential services.

On behalf of the residents of Chikankata, I extend heartfelt appreciation to the President and all stakeholders involved in making this project a reality. Your commitment to listening and acting upon the concerns of the people is commendable.

Let this be a testament to what can be achieved when leadership is responsive, and communities are heard.

Press Statement for Release

DECLARATION OF U$ 2.45 MILLION WONDERFUL GROUP OF COMPANIES INDUSTRIAL PARK BY GOVT IS A TRANSFORMATIONAL OPPORTUNITY
.... The move calls for Chilanga youths to specialize in careers and skills that will align the labour demands of the industry.

15th August, 2025

The recent approval of the **US$2.45 billion Wonderful Group of Companies Industrial Park project** in Chilanga marks a significant milestone for our community and the nation. We, the Chilanga District ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), extend our heartfelt commendations to the New Dawn government, led by President **Mr. Hakainde Hichilema**, for this transformative initiative that will span over **200 hectares**.

This decision highlights the government’s dedication to economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development in our district and beyond. We applaud the strategic vision behind this initiative, which is expected to generate nearly **10,000 jobs** for our citizens, including essential roles for **chemical engineers** and other skilled professionals.

The establishment of this industrial park is a critical step toward economic diversification, helping reduce our reliance on imports and enhancing local production capabilities. The new urea plant, nearing completion, aims to eliminate Zambia's **$450 million fertilizer import bill**, a significant achievement that will also help stabilize our currency during the farming season. Additionally, the thermal power plant within the industrial park will produce **85 megawatts** of electricity, with **45 megawatts** directed to the national grid, ensuring a reliable power supply for both the industrial sector and our communities.

We strongly encourage the youth of Chilanga to align their educational and career goals with the workforce needs of this industrial park. Utilizing the **Constituency Development Fund (CDF)** skills bursary component will be vital in gaining the necessary technical skills and qualifications to secure employment in this transformative project. It is crucial for our local youth to prepare themselves for the upcoming job opportunities.

The UPND firmly believes this initiative will attract further investments and promote technology transfer, leading to a more robust and self-sufficient economy. We call on all stakeholders—government, private sector, and civil society—to collaborate closely for its successful implementation.

In conclusion, we commend the New Dawn government for its proactive approach and unwavering commitment to uplifting the Zambian economy. Let us seize this invaluable opportunity for growth and prosperity in Chilanga and across the nation, ensuring that all citizens benefit from this project.

**For and on behalf of the UPND Chilanga District**

---

Let us work together for a brighter future!

HOW THE LUNGU FAMILY AND MAKEBI ZULU DUPED THE GOVT NEGOTIATORS IN SA BECAUSE THEIR CASES WERE NOT DROPPED
====================
I will be discussing this issue at 20:00hrs tonight, but for now read a story that was published in News Diggers yesterday.

Former President Vice Kavindele Enock has revealed that some regional presidents suggested the Zambian government drop cases against former President Edgar Lungu’s family in exchange for the repatriation of his remains.

Kavindele says the Zambian delegation achieved its mission in South Africa but was left in the dark as to why the other party pulled out at the last minute.

Commenting on remarks by former second deputy speaker of the National Assembly Mwiimba Malama, who claimed the government failed to repatriate Lungu’s remains because it sent the wrong people to negotiate with the Lungu family.

Kavindele said he was approached by regional leaders with proposals he could not act on. "These talks in South Africa were so delicate that we would be phoned by presidents around the region.

Some of them said ‘Could we drop cases against the family’. And I said, 'Look, I don’t have those powers; in Zambia, those powers are vested in the Director of Public Prosecutions.'

My role was to facilitate the return of the remains of the former president so that he could be given a befitting send-off.

What happened between my hotel and the airport after I had succeeded, we will never know because after seven days all parties agreed.

We even agreed that President Hichilema was to be at the airport to receive the remains of President Lungu. How these things changed within 30 minutes, I don’t know,” Kavindele said.

Kavindele’s delegation led the team that had accomplished its mission until the other party abruptly changed its position.

“I’m a highly experienced peace negotiator. The team that I led was a very experienced and distinguished civil servant including former secretary to cabinet Leslie Mbula and the current Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa. And of course our Chief Mumbi sent to do the negotiations would return to Zambia on the view that we will only spend a day but we ended up being in South Africa for 10 days and our achievements were recorded and read out on both TV and radio by Kangwa.

We had gone into these very delicate discussions that took that long and we agreed that Wednesday the 18th the remains will be repatriated. And on that day we were already on our way to the airport, when we were told that the trip had to be aborted because the other party had pulled out of the plans to come back to Zambia,” he said.

“Even the South African military were already at the airport and they laid down all the formalities of sending the former head of State remains to Zambia.

So we had achieved what we were sent for and we don’t know what happened the time we were driving from our hotel to the airport.

As much as the discussions were delicate, we agreed with the other party who we know were under pressure because each time we agreed on anything, the family would say they need to consult, we don’t know who they were consulting and would change their position.

The fact that midway to the airport when everybody was ready the other party changed their position is beyond us. So we were a successful team of negotiators.” Kavindele dismissed Malama’s remarks, saying he and others criticising the delegation were not involved when it truly mattered.

“Mr Malama and others should not trivialise these discussions. They were very delicate, involved a lot of people. I’ve been in very many negotiations, but this one was very delicate.

With Mr Vernon Mwaanga, I negotiated the success of the Lusaka peace accord of Angola where President Savimbi came to Lusaka. The Americans and the Kenyans failed. I’ve been involved in other delicate negotiations such as DRC elections and many other elections in the region. You know elections always cause war in the country but we managed to negotiate.

So I could not say I’m the best but certainly we’ve been successful because I’ve been doing this sort of thing for a long time. Some of the negotiations I cannot mention because I need to seek permission from the state to disclose,” said Kavindele.

Let engage on this issue at 20:00hrs tonight.
