Today we announced DaVinci Resolve coming to iPad, which will initially feature the cut and color pages from DaVinci Resolve.

The new DaVinci Resolve for iPad will open and create standard DaVinci Resolve project files which are compatible with the desktop version of DaVinci Resolve 18. You will be able to host projects using Blackmagic Cloud and collaborate with multiple users all over the world. Supported file formats include H.264, H.265, Apple ProRes and Blackmagic RAW, with clips able to be imported from the iPad Pro internal storage and Photos library, externally connected iCloud or USB-C media disks.

DaVinci Resolve for iPad is similar to the desktop version of DaVinci Resolve.

There are some adaptions to the UI based on screen size, such as not having a menu bar, however the full color and cut pages are provided. DaVinci Resolve projects can be opened, including support for shared collaborative projects via Blackmagic Cloud.

This means DaVinci Resolve for iPad is the same professional tool, and the same codebase as used on major Hollywood feature films.

DaVinci Resolve for iPad does not include the Fairlight audio page or the Fusion visual effects page because their software code has not yet been redesigned for the iPad. We will continue to work on these pages and will include them in the future.

The edit page is not included as it was originally designed for large screens, with a keyboard and mouse. This makes it very difficult to move to the iPad without changing it in a way that would cause problems for professional editors who rely on the edit page for their work. We expect the edit page to remain a desktop only page.

However this means the cut page needs more features so it can operate on the iPad when the edit page is not available. Until now we focused on adding new types of features to the cut page, because the edit page was always available. However on the iPad, that's not the case. So we will be working hard to add more editing features to the cut page as soon as possible. These features will include enhanced audio support, key framing, split edits and more. We will release these updates as we add the features.

DaVinci Resolve for iPad will be available free of charge in Q4 2022 from the Apple iOS App Store. High end customers who need the features of DaVinci Resolve Studio on the iPad will be able to upgrade via a one off in-app purchase. We expect this update to cost US$95.

Today we released HyperDeck 8.2 update for HyperDeck Extreme 4K HDR and HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR which adds support for H.264 up to 1080p60 and DNx up to 2160p60 allowing for a wider range of post production workflows.

With this update, you can now also record up to 32 or 64 channels of audio over SMPTE standard SDI in real time. This means you can export more channels for post production and mastering in 8K. Plus with the addition of high quality AAC audio codec, both models offer increased compatibility with streaming services and the ability to upload recordings direct to Youtube.

The added slate for clip metadata makes it extremely fast to add metadata to any shot. You can now set it so that take numbers are automatically incremented when you start and stop recording, eliminating the need for you to enter them manually for each shot.

Additional updates include HDR Override, which allows you to manually override the HDR metadata ensuring your footage is accurately tagged for future post production work. LCD calibration lets you adjust the color temperature of your screen in the setup menu so your footage is more accurately displayed on your monitor. Plus with the addition of Polish and Ukrainian languages, you can now work in up to 13 different languages.

Today we announced 4 new models of Ultimatte 12 real time compositing processors that are all designed for creating the next generation of broadcast graphics. Also announced was a new Ultimatte Software Control app for Mac and Windows that’s available for download free of charge. This software lets you control all Ultimatte 12 models without the additional cost of a hardware control panel.
The new Ultimatte 12 models are designed at lower cost while retaining the same high quality processing for incredible edge handling, greater color separation, amazing color fidelity and better spill suppression. There are 4 new models, Ultimatte 12 HD, Ultimatte 12 4K and a massive Ultimatte 12 8K model. This allows you to get an Ultimatte 12 for the television standard you are using.
In addition to these 3 models, there is a lower cost Ultimatte 12 HD Mini model with HDMI connections priced at only US$495. Ultimatte 12 HD Mini was specifically designed to let ATEM Mini customers get the benefits of broadcast quality keying to build innovative fixed camera virtual sets. Plus this model has the same SDI monitor cascade feature of the other Ultimatte models. Then this model also includes a 3G-SDI program output and a 3G-SDI program return for camera control. This means you can move the Ultimatte 12 HD Mini and HDMI camera up to a larger SDI switcher when needed.
All models of Ultimatte 12 include built in frame stores so you can key using stills for backgrounds, eliminating the cost of external equipment. This means all compositing can be done in the Ultimatte itself.
We think the Ultimatte 12 HD Mini model will be a fantastic training aid. It has the exact same Ultimatte 12 processing so the settings have the exact same effects as the higher end Ultimatte 12 models. Ultimatte 12 is a complex product with lots of features for keying, spill suppression and color correction. So the Ultimatte 12 HD Mini will be critical for allowing people to learn Ultimatte. We also hope to have some tutorial videos posted in the next weeks to explain Ultimatte in more detail.
Ultimatte Software Control is also available for download today. This software is based on the software used on the Ultimatte Smart Remote 4 hardware control panel. However because it runs on a computer, it is the method for uploading frames to the Ultimatte media pool.
The media pool is a new feature in all 4 of the new Ultimatte 12 models and it lets you load backgrounds, garbage mattes and layer inputs using still frames. This means you can do compositions for fixed camera virtual sets without any additional external video sources. The Ultimatte can do all the work internally.
Because the Ultimatte Software Control is derived from the Smart Remote 4, it’s a little complex to use and does not look as nice as we would like. We are planning on continuing to evolve the Ultimatte Software Control utility over the next months and work with the Ultimatte community to add improvements and user interface updates.
The Ultimatte 12 HD Mini will be priced at $495, the Ultimatte 12 HD is $895, Ultimatte 12 4K is $2,495 and the Ultimatte 12 8K is $6,995. All 4 of the new Ultimatte 12 models are available now from authorized Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.
We will be showing the new Ultimatte 12 models at IBC 2022 in Amsterdam this week and we will also show a small fixed camera virtual set using ATEM Mini and Ultimatte 12 HD Minis. Please visit us at Stand 7.C49 to chat about this workflow.

Today we announced Blackmagic Camera 7.9.2 update for Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 which improves compatibility with live streaming platforms and improved iPhone 12 tethering when streaming via RTMP.

In addition, this update adds support for the recording of camera motion sensor data to Blackmagic RAW clips. This means you can record data from the gyro sensor into the metadata of a Blackmagic RAW file to stabilize your handheld footage in DaVinci Resolve, just like a built in steady cam.

This update also optimizes the behavior of the camera’s ISO, shutter and white balance switches, preventing accidental large changes of these settings when adjusting up or down, as well as improved connectivity between Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter.

Today we released DaVinci Resolve 18.0.1 which includes a number of improvements, including fixing a problem with DNx support which means DNx clips will now appear online during scrubbing, stop and playback.

This update also addresses an issue when color grading using the DaVinci Resolve project library server, with power grade stills now able to be saved and used across multiple projects. When upgrading ACES projects to DaVinci Resolve 18, the correct input color space will now be chosen, making it faster and easier to start working on these projects.
