HEALTH MINISTER EQUIPS GA NORTH MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL WITH MEDICAL ITEMS WORTH $1.5 MILLION

The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has presented medical equipment worth $1.5 million to the Ga North Municipal Hospital, stressing on government’s commitment to strengthening existing health facilities.

He explained that the gesture followed a surprise visit where it was discovered that the hospital was operating without some critical resources.

The items, numbering over thirty, include key resources such as anesthesia machines, incubators, Nebulizer, ECG machines, Stem Sterilizer, Stethoscopes, Hospital beds, Delivery set, Ward screen among others.

Hon. Akandoh emphasized that these represent a capital investment and urged hospital authorities to ensure proper maintenance and effective use of the equipment for the benefit of patients.

He further noted that healthcare delivery depends on infrastructure, personnel, and equipment, noting that it is unwise to allow existing facilities to deteriorate while focusing only on new construction.

The Medical Superintendent of the Ga North Municipal Hospital, Dr. Victor Caesar, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the hospital and noted the joy and relief of staff upon receiving the items, especially the anesthesia machines, which had been urgently needed for years.

Dr. Caesar assured the Minister that the equipment will be well maintained, as the facility has a strong culture of preserving and maximizing the use of medical resources.

Kitwe Horror: 4-Year-Old Tortured and Dumped in Pit Latrine
A four-year-old male has allegedly been subjected to torture and left unconscious in Kitwe’s Kapoto Township, situated in the Copperbelt Province.

The child was discovered by his grandmother, lodged headfirst in a pit latrine, in what appears to be a deliberate attempt at disposal. She informed ZNBC News from the bedside at Kitwe Teaching Hospital that her grandson had gone missing on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

According to Dr. Enock Soko, a surgeon at Kitwe Teaching Hospital, preliminary evaluations suggest the boy was tortured by unidentified individuals who may have attempted to discard him in the pit latrine, believing him to be deceased.

The child is currently receiving medical attention, and the case has sparked urgent calls for community vigilance, child protection, and swift justice.

I want every Zambian lifted. I want every home to feel the warmth of opportunity, every child to know the power of education, every family to live with dignity. But I must be honest: we cannot lift everyone all at once.

Let my journey be a mirror. Let it reflect your own strength. Let it remind you that no matter where you begin, you can rise. Because if the girl from Kaputa who walked without shoes can stand here today, then so can you.

Guided by the visionary legacy of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, I stand as a proud beneficiary of free education, a foundation that shaped my journey. Today, we are once again blessed with a similar opportunity under the leadership of the UPND government. I urge our communities to harness this enabling environment-anchored by FREE EDUCATION and INDUSTRIALIZATION policies-to unlock transformative opportunities for our nation.

I stand before you not as someone born into privilege, but as a daughter of the soil-a girl from Kaputa who once walked barefoot on dusty roads, chasing dreams that seemed too distant to touch. I know the silence of hunger. I know what it means to hope with nothing but faith in your heart.

The road is long, and more work is still needed.
Yet hear me when I say this message is for all of you:
You are seen. You are heard. You matter. your story is part of our nation’s heartbeat. We will not forget you. We will not leave you behind.

Dr. W.K Mutale-Nalumango,
Vice President of the Republic of Zambia.
