TOP HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER JOINS THE LUNGU CASE IN SOUTH AFRICA.

Pretoria 15th August, 2025

South Africa’s celebrated Senior Counsel, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, has joined the high-profile case involving former Zambian president Edgar Lungu in abid to ensure the rights of the Lungu family are protected, adding considerable legal muscle to proceedings already drawing continental attention.

Ngcukaitobi, renowned for his fearless advocacy in constitutional and human rights matters, has appeared in some of South Africa’s most consequential legal battles from exposing state capture under Jacob Zuma to defending President Cyril Ramaphosa in the CR17 campaign funding case. His recent role at the International Court of Justice, representing South Africa in its genocide case against Israel, cemented his reputation as a constitutionalist with global reach.

The Lungu case, already steeped in political intrigue, could now become a defining test of constitutional governance in the region and with Ngcukaitobi on board, the courtroom drama and legal facts is set to intensify.

Financial expert urges central bank to enhance security features of new banknotes amid concerns of widespread counterfeiting!

Financial Analyst Yusuf Dodia is urging the bank of Zambia to urgently review and enhance the security features of the new banknotes.

Mr. Dodia is concerned about the widespread cases of counterfeit currency which are being reported, barely a year after the introduction of the new notes.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Dodia notes that unlike the older notes, the new banknotes do not have enough advanced security elements, making it easy for counterfeiters to replicate the currency.

He has further cautioned that rural areas are likely to be the biggest victims, as such communities often lack the technology and equipment needed to detect fake notes.

Mr. Dodia is therefore calling on the central bank to review and enhance the security features of the banknotes to safeguard public confidence in the national currency and protect vulnerable communities from financial losses.

ZNS SAFARIS SECONDARY SCHOOL UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT THE COST OF K35 MILLION

In a significant milestone for education in Zambia, the Zambia National Service - ZNS held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new ZNS Safaris Secondary School in Chilanga.

The project is as a result of a partnership between ZNS and the Wonderful Group of Companies, highlighting the importance of collaboration in advancing the nation's education agenda.

Gracing the ceremony, Minister of Defence Honourable Ambrose Lwiiji Lufuma emphasized that the provision of effective education is a shared responsibility, commending the Wonderful Group for their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The Minister noted that the New Dawn Government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema had prioritized education, introducing landmark policies such as free education from early childhood to secondary school and unprecedented teacher recruitment.

"The new secondary school will benefit not only the children of military personnel but also the broader community, embodying the principle that education is a bridge between today's dreams and tomorrow's achievements. Therefore I call upon other cooperating partners to emulate this example because an investment in education may not bear fruit overnight but will last for generations, " Mr Lufuma emphasized.

At the same event, the ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Engineer Maliti Solochi II
hails the partnership with Wonderful Group of Companies for the new school project expressing his institution's commitment to supporting government policy which he said has placed education at the center of national transformation.

The Commander emphasized that ZNS has fully aligned itself with the national agenda, which prioritizes education as a key driver of national development highlighting the Republican President's emphasis on education as the greatest equalizer and the Service's efforts to support this initiative.

"The new school will stand as a beacon of hope and opportunity, creating an environment where children can acquire the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to contribute meaningfully to the nation's prosperity. So I want to commend the Wonderful Group of Companies for partnering with us in this noble endeavor. Your investment in ZNS national programs is an investment in Zambia's continued progress," Lt Gen Eng Solochi II assured.

Meanwhile, Wonderful Group of Companies Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr Roy Mwamba said his company's gesture was a significant demonstration of its commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Mr Mwamba emphasized the group's dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of people and communities they serve.

"This project is a clear demonstration of our corporate social responsibility, reflecting our belief that success is not only measured by products produced or markets reached, but by lives uplifted and communities strengthened," he said.

Meanwhile, Chilanga Member of Parliament Sipho Hlazo thanked management at Wonderful Group of Companies and the ZNS Commander for allowing the construction of the Secondary School to succeed.

Mr. Hlazo said since the idea of the school was mooted in December 2024, the ZNS Command was very supportive and the investor also played a crucial role in making the project work.

He revealed that the construction of the ZNS Safaris Secondary School is the sixth such project in Chilanga Constituency where the private sector is partnering with government to build infrastructure in the education sector.

GOVERNMENT MOVES TO EVICT AND DEMOLISH HOUSES FROM MUNALI SECONDARY SCHOOL LAND ENCROACHERS

By Victoria Kayeye Yambani

Government has sounded a stern warning to individuals who have illegally occupied Munali Secondary School land, with Education Minister Douglas Syakalima revealing that action will be taken within days and stressing that no one should cry about not having been warned.

Accompanied by Munali Member of Parliament Mike Mposha, the minister says the encroachment not only breaches the law but also robs future leaders of vital educational space.

Mr. Mposha has emphasised that the crackdown will not spare members from any political party, whether PF or UPND, as the law applies equally to all.

They were speaking during a tour of the affected area, where government officials found several illegal developments already in place including a fuel station, residential houses, and perimeter wall fences.

Ministry of Lands Permanent Secretary Patrick Mucheleka, who was also part of the delegation, explained that while the Forest 27 land dispute remains before the courts, it should serve as a lesson for citizens not to acquire land through illegal means.

He says that encroachment on public institutions undermines development and will not be tolerated.
