PETER THE APOSTLE

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!According to his great mercy,he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:3-4)

As a messenger of Jesus, Peter also wrote two letters to new Jewish believers to encourage them and instruct them. In these verses Peter is saying is that God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, deserves our praise and gratitude for His goodness to us. Jesus rose from the dead, and as believers, we are new creatures who belong to Jesus and who have a hope for eternity in the presence of Jesus Christ.

Peter addressed his letters to believers who are a minority. In many ways they were like outsiders. As Jewish Christians they were driven out of Jerusalem. They lived in Asia Minor, an area now known as Turkey. As Christians, they lived as aliens among unbelievers in a foreign culture. From the beginning Christians dealt with rejection and persecution. Like a shepherd tends his sheep, Peter attended to his fellow believers with care in their suffering. He encourages them and motivates them as he teaches them more about Jesus in his letters.

Have you received encouragement from other believers? Did it have an impact on your life? In what way can you be an encouragement to other believers?

Let us pray
Lord Jesus, you are my real help in the moment of need. I pray that you will arise and help me when I need. Your array of miracles, a true manifestation of Your divinity draws the admiration of searching souls. Arise O Lord and Heal in me whatever You see needs healing. I am praying for a miracle. I know the source from which it will come. I trust in You to send me a sign. Amen.

THURSDAY MORNING DEVOTION

27/07/2026

Bible Reading: Mark 10:46-52

"The Last Stop Before Glory"

Theme: True faith persists through opposition, by leaving everything to follow Him even when the cross is near.

OPENING PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we thank You for this new day. Open our spiritual eyes like You opened Bartimaeus's physical eyes. Help us to hear Your voice above the noise of the world. Remove every cloak of our old identity that keeps us bound. Give us the courage to follow You, even when the road leads to sacrifice. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Jericho was the final stop before Jerusalem—the city where Jesus would be betrayed, beaten, and crucified. This is no coincidence. At this critical juncture, Jesus makes His last offer of mercy before entering His suffering. And here, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus teaches us what true faith looks like.

Key Words:

"The Last Stop" The final place of decision before your destiny is sealed. Jesus makes His last offer of mercy before entering into His suffering. You must choose whether to stay in your old life or follow Him to the cross.
· "True Faith" Faith is not a feeling,it's a fight. It's not a whisper, it's a shout. It's not sitting still it's throwing off your cloak and running to Jesus. And when He heals you, you don't go home you go with Him. Faith is the cry that stops Jesus, and the feet that follow Jesus.

POINT 1: Faith Hears Through the Noise

Verses 46–47

"When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!'"

Bartimaeus was blind, but he heard better than the crowd. While others only saw "Jesus of Nazareth" (a man from an ordinary town), Bartimaeus recognized Him as the "Son of David" the promised Messiah. His physical blindness gave him spiritual clarity.
Spiritual perception doesn't require physical sight it requires a listening heart. The crowd had eyes but couldn't see who Jesus truly was. Bartimaeus had no eyes but heard the truth.

· Are you listening for Jesus or just hearing the crowd?
· True faith tunes out the voices of doubt and tunes into the voice of the Savior.
"Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." — Romans 10:17

POINT 2: Faith Shouts Against Opposition

Verse 48

"Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, 'Son of David, have mercy on me!'"

The crowd tried to silence him. They wanted him to be dignified, quiet, and invisible. But Bartimaeus knew this was his moment his "last stop." He refused to be silenced.
The devil uses different people to silence your prayer. Persistent faith disturbs the status quo and refuses to be dignified in desperation. When you're desperate for a breakthrough, you don't whisper you SHOUT!

· Who or what is telling you to be quiet today?
· What prayer have you stopped praying because people told you to be silent?
· If your need is real, your cry should be loud!
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." — Matthew 7:7

POINT 3: Faith Responds Immediately

Verses 49–50

"Jesus stopped and said, 'Call him.' So they called to the blind man, 'Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you.' Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus."
Notice the immediate response. Jesus stopped the crowd called and Bartimaeus didn't hesitate. He threw off his cloak (his identity as a beggar, his old life, his security blanket) and jumped up.

When Jesus calls, you don't crawl you RISE. And you leave behind the old garment of your past. That cloak represented who he was a blind beggar. He left his old identity behind to receive his new identity.

· What cloak are you still wearing? (Shame? Guilt? The label of your past?)
· When Jesus calls, do you hesitate or respond?
· Your old identity must be thrown off before you can receive your new sight.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." — 2 Corinthians 5:17

POINT 4: Faith Gets Specific with Jesus

Verse 51

"'What do you want me to do for you?' Jesus asked him. The blind man said, 'Rabbi, I want to see.'"

Jesus didn't assume. He asked. Bartimaeus didn't say "bless me" or "help me" or "be with me" he was specific: "I want to see."
Vague faith gets vague answers. Bring your specific need to Christ. Jesus already knew what he needed but He wanted Bartimaeus to SAY IT. Your confession activates your deliverance.

· What is your specific request to Jesus today?
· Are you praying general prayers or specific, bold requests?
· Don't be afraid to tell Jesus exactly what you need.

"You do not have, because you do not ask." — James 4:2

POINT 5: Faith Leads to Following

Verse 52

"'Go,' said Jesus, 'your faith has healed you.' Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road."

Healing was instantaneous. But here's the key: He didn't go home. He followed Jesus along the road to Jerusalem the road to the cross.
The goal of salvation is not just healing it's fellowship with Jesus on the path to the cross. Your faith saves you, but your feet prove it by walking with Him.

· Are you following Jesus only for what He can give you, or are you following Him wherever He goes?
· The road to Jerusalem involved suffering are you willing?
· Following Jesus means going His way, not your own.
"Then Jesus told his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'" Matthew 16:24

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF JERICHO

Why does this miracle happen at Jericho? Because Jericho was the last stop before Jerusalem. This means:

· Jericho represents your "last chance" to truly see Jesus before He passes by.
· Following Him to Jerusalem means accepting that discipleship leads to sacrifice, not just blessings.
· Your faith saves you, but your feet prove it—by walking with Him even when the road gets hard.

"For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps." — 1 Peter 2:21

In Conclusion these are the key points to note

· I will not be silenced by the crowd.
· I will not be held back by my past.
· I will not settle for vague blessings—I will ask specifically.
· I will not stop at healing—I will follow Jesus to the end.
· Jericho is not my destination—my destiny is in Jerusalem with Jesus!

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord Jesus,
I hear You passing by.
Forgive me for sitting by the roadside too long.
Forgive me for being silent when I should have shouted.
Forgive me for holding onto my old cloak of shame and identity.

Today, I cry out: "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
I want to see truly see who You are.
I want to see my purpose, my destiny, and my future.
I throw off my cloak of the past.
I rise up and come to You.
And when You heal me, I will not go back home to my old life—
I will follow You, even if the road leads to the cross.

In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
