UCZ SYNOD BISHOP ENGAGES SENIOR CHIEF IMWIKO, PRAISES PEACE, LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT

The United Church of Zambia Synod Bishop, Rev. Bishop Festus Chulu, has reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to promoting peace, leadership, and community development following a courtesy visit to Senior Chief Anang’anga Imwiko in Mwandi.

During the engagement, Senior Chief Imwiko commended the UCZ for its continued contribution to social development within his chiefdom, particularly through the provision of essential services such as schools, hospitals, and other community-driven initiatives.
The traditional leader further acknowledged the Church’s role in fostering peace and maintaining constructive relations within the country, noting that the UCZ has consistently demonstrated responsible leadership.

“Throughout my lifetime, I have never witnessed the United Church of Zambia taking an antagonistic position toward the government,” he said, describing the Church’s approach as one that contributes to national unity and stability.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same event, Rev. Bishop Chulu emphasized the importance of leadership grounded in faith, stating that all authority ultimately comes from God.
He described traditional leaders as a blessing to society, noting that chiefs are divinely entrusted with responsibility and guidance over their people.
Quoting Proverbs 21:1, the Synod Bishop underscored the role of divine direction in leadership.
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, and He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases,” he said, adding that the scripture reflects how God guides leaders in their decisions and responsibilities.
The visit highlighted the longstanding relationship between the Church and traditional leadership, with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, service delivery, and sustainable community development.

REV. CATHERINE MUMBA DIES AT 78

Retired United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Minister, Reverend Catherine Maureen Mumba, has died at the age of 78.

Rev. Mumba passed away on Sunday, 24th May 2026, around 19:00 hours in Kitwe after an illness.

Daughter to the deceased, Apostle Lilian Mwila, confirmed the development to United Voice Radio.

The late Rev.Mumba is survived by four children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral gatherings are being hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Mwila at House Number 4 Kakubi Street, Riverside in Kitwe.

Burial and funeral programme details are expected to be announced later.
