HEALTH CORNER (INFECTIONS)
Those suffering from an infection or running a fever do not need to deprive themselves of well-prepared, delicious dishes. However, these should be very light and healthy foods that meet the following conditions: • Contain a high proportion of water: In case of fever, it is necessary to supply a greater amount of fluid in order to compensate for the dehydrating effect of sweating. Fluids are also necessary in order to enhance urine production, and thus facilitate the elimination of the multiple waste substances excreted as a result of the infection.
• Easy-to-digest and low-fat. In the acute phase, it is also recommended that they be low in protein and in calories, that is, very light.
• Contain natural antibiotics among their ingredients such as garlic and onion. These substances contribute to destroy germs, which do not develop resistance to them.
• Contain ingredients that enhance defences (immunostimulants). Vegetables, and especially tomatoes (part of the make-up of several dishes) as well as oranges, stimulate the production of antibodies, due to their antioxidant action and to their content in vitamin A and vitamin C.

However, in the case of infections that weaken the person, salad digestion becomes more difficult. This is also the case for children and the elderly. Therefore, in all these cases, a nutritious local vegetable-based soup such as chibwabwa (pumpkin leaves) or bondwe (amaranth) is recommended. These traditional dishes, often part of a healthy Zambian diet, are rich in vitamins and minerals. They serve as refreshing, wholesome options—especially when lightly prepared with tomatoes, onions, garlic and groundnuts—offering a natural boost to health and immunity. Considering that garlic counts among the ingredients, and occasionally onion, the soups have anti-infectious properties. Education and Health Vol 3. P.356

OFFERTORY READING (A SURPRISE I CANT EXPLAIN)
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” –Proverbs 19:7,

One businesswoman shared her challenges with getting debtors to repay her. She expressed frustration when people who genuinely needed help came asking for assistance but then failed to pay her back.

However, something surprised her. Whenever somebody needy came by and she helped that person, debtors who had defaulted many times, some whom she had even forgotten, paid her back without her asking for them to do so. This has happened several times, and she says, “It is a surprise I can’t explain.”

From her experience, she testifies that God loves the poor and is happy when those with means to help them do so. God keeps His word that “whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done” (Proverbs 19:7, NIV). The businesswoman learned that by caring for the poor, God helped her by convicting her debtors to pay back what they owed her

APPEAL: let us remember the poor, and God will bless us. Remember, what we do for others may not seem like much, but our “little” becomes much and the source of blessings for others. The Lord is so good. Little is much when God is in it.
