Three Women Nabbed in Lusaka for Counterfeit Money.
Police in Lusaka have apprehended three women after they were found with counterfeit K500 banknotes amounting to K97,500.
The incident was first uncovered on September 25, 2025, when 32-year-old Frenchesca Mwansa attempted to pay for alcohol at a bar in Matero using a fake K500 note. A quick search on her revealed another counterfeit note, bringing the total in her possession to K1,000.
Her arrest led officers to 34-year-old Margret Mukuka of Emmasdale, who was discovered with K2,000 in counterfeit currency. Further investigations then directed police to the residence of 46-year-old Beatrice Mulukutila in Matero North, where a stash of K94,500 in fake notes was recovered.
All three suspects are currently in police custody, while the seized banknotes have been handed over to the Bank of Zambia for verification.
Police have since urged members of the public to remain cautious when handling large cash transactions and to immediately alert law enforcement if they come across suspicious-looking notes.
