NRPUP dims light on Tonse Alliance partnership
THE National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), known for its lamp symbol has divorced itself from a union with the Tonse Alliance and will probably be shining their light elsewhere.
Within a space of four months, NRPUP came in the political scene and made noise after being used as one of the Alliance's Special purpose vehicles, fielding presidential candidate Brian Mundubile, who came out second in the just ended general election.
After the loss of the presidential election, the party can easily boast of being the main opposition, having the majority of National Assembly seats outside the rulling UPND.
According to the party's secretary general Nonde Mubanga, the decision was made after careful consideration and extensive consultations.
"A decision has been made to withdraw from the current Tone Alliance arrangements. This decision has not been taken lightly."
"It follows a thorough assessment of the Alliance's objectives, operational direction, and the prevailing circumstances surrounding our continued participation," he said.
Speaking during a press briefing, Mubanga expressed appreciation to all Tonse Alliance partners for the collaboration, engagement, and efforts invested during the period of association.
"We acknowledge the contributions made by each partner and remain respectful of the relationships that have been built throughout this journey," he said.
"While we remain committed to the values of unity, cooperation, and national development, we believe that our goals and aspirations can be more effectively pursued through an alternative path that best serves the interests of our members and supporters."
Mubanga added that the withdrawal should not be interpreted as hostility or opposition towards any individual or organisation within the alliance.
"It is a strategic decision intended to position our party in a manner that aligns with our vision, principles, and long-term objectives," he said.
"We remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the people, promoting democratic values, and contributing positively to the nation's progress."
The party called upon it's members and supporters to remain united, focused, and dedicated as they flip this page and embark on the next phase.
