GOVT STATEMENT ON HOMOSEXUALITY.

Government finds as irresponsible the behaviour by a group of people that at the weekend marched at Lusaka’s showgrounds, chanting and carrying placards in support of homosexuality.
As Government, we do not condone this behaviour and anyone who decides to go against the law will not go unpunished.
I further wish to stress that homosexuality is prohibited in Zambia as provided in Sections 155 and 157 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Government is concerned that the group decided to use the permit that was given in good faith by Police to raise awareness against women and girls sexual and Gender Based Violence, but used it to champion an illegal and criminal cause.

Police have since instituted investigations in the matter to bring the culprits to book.
Further, Government wishes to remind the public that as a Christian Nation, they have a duty to uphold the Christian values of morality, decency and human dignity in the manner they conduct themselves.

As such, citizens are advised to desist, at all times, any conduct or behavior, that is inimical to our Christian values.

Government reiterates its commitment to promoting and upholding national values and principles as enshrined in the Republican Constitution.

STOP INDISCRIMINATE DISPOSAL OF SOLID WASTE, RESIDENTS TOLD

Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company CEO Mr Imuwana Mwanawalye has called on residents of Lusaka City to desist from indiscriminate disposal of solid waste in undesignated areas in their Constituencies.

This is after the company's engagement on the collection of solid waste in different consistencies at a cost that should not be the case.

"We collect solid waste that had pilled up, as result of failure by some solid waste generators to take responsibility for this solid waste. This accumulated solid waste is a hazard to the health of affected communities, and it is therefore important that people should desist from such activities and change their mind set over this vice.

"This is a costly exercise on the part of the Company and negatively affects service provision. In this regard, members of the community are encouraged to subcribe with the existing solid waste management systems in their respective Constituencies."

Mr Mwanamwalye said the company will be clearing up the accumulated solid waste in these Constituencies but once this is done, any person that will be found indiscriminately disposing off of solid will be prosecuted for failure to register with solid waste service provider contrary to Section 24 sub (5) (a) of the Solid Waste Regulation and Management Act No. 20 of 2018, of the Laws of Zambia.

The company has so far collected indiscriminately disposed off of solid waste from Kamwala, Chilenge, Kabwata and Lilanda Markets. We are therefore appealing to different stakeholders to come on board and partner with the Company to clean up our communities.

Let's keep Lusaka Green and Healthy.

POLICE GUN DOWN TWO SUSPECTED CRIMINALS

February 25, 2023

Police in Kitwe shot dead two people suspected to be behind a spate of Robberies in Kitwe and Chingola Districts.

The two suspects identified as Ernest Mashane also known as Chaile aged 37 and Fidelis Mwansa popularly known as Shi Castrol aged 31 both of Kamatipa area in Kitwe District were gunned down on February 24, 2023 at Mindolo Dam area around 17:30 hours.

Concerned members of the public spotted the two known notorious suspects in Race Course township and apprehended them after a long chase. Police were alerted and arrested the suspects around 15:00 hours.

When interrogated, they admitted being behind a series of Aggravated Robberies experienced in Kitwe and Chingola and that they had a Pistol at their house in Kamatipa township. They later led Police officers to their house in Kamatipa where a pistol was recovered. Upon further interrogations, the suspects revealed that an AK-47 rifle was hidden in the bush in Mindola Dam Area.

It was during the recovery of the AK-47 rifle that the two decided to run away from the Police. Several warning shots were fired in the air in trying to stop them and in the process they were caught by bullets and sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

They were rushed to Kitwe Central Hospital where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
