So muvi tv aired a story of a certain woman who was pregnant but never went bck to the hospital for antenatal till delivery day and lost the baby from complications. I was shocked to realize there’s still people who don’t go for these checkups. Just incase there’s someone on this platform planning on not to go here’s a few reasons why you need to.
🌸 The Importance of Having a Planned Pregnancy & Antenatal Visits/Supplements.
➡️Those visits allows for better health for both mother & baby. Planning allows you to prepare your body before conception by eating well avoiding harmful substances (alcohol, smoking) and treating any health conditions (like diabetes or high blood pressure).
• Emotional readiness: you are mentally and financially prepared to welcome a child, reducing stress during pregnancy.
• Reduced risks: Unplanned pregnancies often miss the critical early stage where the baby’s organs are forming. Planning ensures supplements like folic acid are already started to prevent birth defects.
➡️Antenatal (Prenatal) Visits.
• Early detection of complications: Regular check-ups help doctors/midwives detect conditions like high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, or infections early before they cause harm.
• Monitoring baby’s growth: Ultrasounds and check-ups ensure the baby is growing well.
• Guidance & education: You receive advice on nutrition, safe exercise, delivery options, and breastfeeding.
• Emotional support: Regular visits reassures you reducing anxiety.
➡️Antenatal Supplements
• Folic Acid: Prevents neural tube defects in the baby.
• Iron & Folic Acid (IFA): Prevents anemia in the mother and supports baby’s growth.
• Calcium & Vitamin D: Strengthens mother’s bones and supports baby’s bone/teeth development.
• Other supplements as advised: Such as multivitamins depending on individual needs.
And remember planned pregnancies give babies the best start in life. Antenatal visits and supplements are essential for preventing complications, supporting healthy growth, and preparing you emotionally and physically for parenthood. Do the right thing and save yourself and the baby.
