The US mission in Nigeria has announced that applicants for F, M, and J non-immigrant visas must now set their social media accounts to "public." These visa categories cover educational and travel exchanges. In a statement posted on its official X page, the mission said the rule takes effect immediately as part of new visa requirements intended to strengthen vetting processes and verify applicants’ identities and admissibility to the US. The Trump administration maintains that a visa is "a privilege, not a right."

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has been accused of having ties to criminal gangs and of meddling in police investigations into politically motivated murders.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said they were of "grave national security concern" and "receiving the highest priority attention".

Mr Mchunu has since denied what he says are "wild allegations".
