DEC Nabs Four in Counterfeit Notes Crackdown in Kapiri Mposhi and Choma

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested and charged two suspects in Kapiri Mposhi for possessing suspected counterfeit notes amounting to K15,940.

The suspects have been identified as a 28-year-old male Patrick Mwansa and an 18-year-old female Bertha Sinaipa.

In a statement issued today by DEC Deputy Public Relations Officer Theresa Mawere, the suspects were apprehended while attempting to deposit the money at a named facility within the district.

Ms Mawere said after interrogation, Mwansa led police to a shop in Kawama Compound where a printer and computer allegedly used in the production of the suspected counterfeit notes were seized.

In another case, DEC arrested two men in Choma for being in possession of suspected counterfeit notes amounting to 9,750.

A man identified as Conticious Baldwin Kapopwe, 30 , was arrested at Kalukungu Market on Saturday after he reportedly attempted to deposit suspected counterfeit currency worth K5,000 at a mobile booth.

An additional K3,600 suspected counterfeit notes were found in his pockets.

Meanwhile, on Monday April 13, DEC arrested 59-year-old Kennedy Popota at Makalanguzu Market who was found with K1,150 suspected counterfeit notes.

Ms Mawere revealed that five of the notes had the same serial number as the one found with Kapopwe.

All suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting court processes.
