NRFA INTRODUCES MOBILE MONEY PAYMENTS AT TOLL GATES

The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has introduced Mobile Money Payment options to provide motorists with a flexible and convenient way of paying tolls at all Toll Gates operated by the Agency countrywide.

NRFA Public Relations Manager Alphonsius Hamachila said the Mobile Money Payment system will operate alongside existing payment methods which include E-Toll Card and cash payments.

He said motorists will now have three easy and accessible ways to settle toll charges, helping to reduce localised congestion, improve traffic flow and enhance overall customer convenience.

Mr. Hamachila has said the payment initiative will not be applicable at Public Private Partnership operated Toll gates.

And NRFA Information Communication Technology (ICT) Manager Mumba Mubili stated that the adoption of Mobile Money was part of the Agency's ongoing digital transformation agenda aimed at making toll payments more efficient and user friendly.

He said the NRFA remained committed to leveraging technology to modernise toll operations and strengthen revenue collection for the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of the national road network.

And several motorists have described the Mobile Money payment process as easy, secure and faster with Toll Collectors only asking for the mobile telephone number which they input in the system and the motorists is prompted to approve the transaction on their mobile phone.

Todayโ€™s Friday segment of the FIZ Show features various stakeholders from the financial markets, including host Aflife, following a corporate breakfast event held on 20 March 2026 at the InterContinental Lusaka in Lusaka, where the Group officially unveiled its refreshed brand identity. The ceremony brought together regulators, financial institutions, partners and clients, with remarks delivered by Group CEO Muna Hantuba, Guest of Honour Akapelwa Imwiko representing the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, and Namakau Mundia Ntini of the Pensions and Insurance Authority.

Speakers highlighted Aflifeโ€™s longstanding contribution as custodians of national savings for over three decades, with the group managing approximately US$845 million in assets and targeting the US$1 billion mark. The rebrand signals consolidation across the groupโ€™s businesses to provide integrated financial solutions while strengthening collaboration with institutions including the Bank of Zambia and the Securities and Exchange Commission, alongside banks and industry partners such as Sanlam.

Regulators commended the transformation as a sign of innovation, resilience and commitment to financial inclusion. Industry performance over the past decade was also spotlighted, with private pension assets growing significantly and expanding opportunities emerging through digital transformation, product innovation and efforts to extend pension coverage to the informal sector and underserved communities.

Government representatives emphasized the private sectorโ€™s role in achieving national development priorities, including increased copper production, agricultural growth, energy expansion and infrastructure investment. Aflifeโ€™s new chapter positions the group as a partner in wealth creation, innovation and inclusive growth as Zambia transitions into a new phase of economic expansion.

MTN Mobile Money Zambia has announced the launch of โ€œWina Nyumba na MoMoโ€, a nationwide promotion designed to celebrate and reward customers for their everyday use of Mobile Money services.

This new campaign gives Zambians the chance to win life-changing prizes simply by using the MoMo services they already rely on.
One lucky customer will walk away with a brand-new house. In addition, five customers will each win K100,000 over the course of five months, while 1,000 customers every month will receive cash prizes of up to K2,000.

Participation is simple: customers only need to deposit money into their MoMo accounts and continue with their everyday transactions, such as sending money, paying bills, buying airtime and bundles, or making payments using MoMo. Monthly winners will be contacted via 115 or 215 throughout the promotional period.

Speaking during the launch, MTN Mobile Money Chief Executive Officer, Komba Malukutila, expressed pride in introducing a promotion that not only rewards customers but also acknowledges the essential role MoMo plays in their daily lives.

โ€œMoMo has become part of everyday life for millions of Zambians. People rely on it for payments, transfers, school fees, business transactions, and family support. Wina Nyumba na MoMo is our way of saying thank you by giving customers the chance to win simply for using a service that already makes their lives easier. Last year, we gave away five brand-new cars, creating unforgettable moments for families across Zambia. The excitement, the joy, and the stories inspired us. This year, we are taking things even further. In 2026, we are turning dreams into reality by giving one lucky customer the chance to win a brand-new home of their own, while thousands more walk away with cash prizes,โ€ he said.

Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, who was Guest of Honour at the launch, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative.

โ€œMobile money continues to serve as a key enabler of financial inclusion by providing access to financial services for individuals, households, and businesses across both urban and rural areas,โ€ he said.

He further emphasised the role of innovation in national development, adding, โ€œThis promotion reflects a practical application of digital innovation that enhances participation in the formal financial system without creating barriers to entry.โ€

The โ€œWina Nyumba na MoMoโ€ promotion involves Micmar and Dangote Cement, both key players in Zambiaโ€™s construction industry. Their participation supports the initiative and contributes to its successful implementation.
Speaking at the launch, Michael Kroupnik, Chief Executive Officer of Micmar Investments Limited, said owning a home is a significant milestone, and Micmar is committed to supporting such initiatives.

โ€œAt Micmar, we believe in driving meaningful impact within our communities. We are passionate about supporting initiatives that change lives and build a stronger future for all Zambians. This is why we are proud to partner with MTN on the โ€˜Wina Nyumbaโ€™ campaign,โ€ he said.

The โ€œWina Nyumba na MoMoโ€ promotion is open to all active MoMo customers across Zambia and will run from April 2026 to August 2026. Beyond rewarding loyal customers, the promotion supports MTN MoMoโ€™s broader vision of increasing financial inclusion by ensuring that safe, convenient, and accessible financial services reach individuals, families, and small businesses across both rural and urban communities.

At last yearโ€™s Land-Linked Conference by Africast, Zambiaโ€™s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon.Frank Tayali, delivered a compelling call to action on Africaโ€™s trade potential and the urgent need for deeper regional collaboration.

He highlighted a critical reality Africa continues to trade more with the rest of the world than within itself, despite a population of over 1.4 billion people. This represents a powerful, untapped market one that can only be unlocked through stronger connectivity, deliberate partnerships, and strategic investment in transport and logistics.

Guided by the vision of His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema and his emphasis on economic diplomacy, Zambia is steadily positioning itself as a key driver in facilitating trade, strengthening regional ties, and enabling seamless movement of goods and services across borders.

It is this momentum that brings us to the next phase not just conversation, but action.

Africa is moving. The question is, are you part of the journey?

There is a moment, somewhere between the first glimpse of Table Mountain rising above the Atlantic morning mist and the last glass of Franschhoek rosรฉ in a lamp-lit courtyard, when the Western Cape stops being a destination and becomes a feeling. I have lived it for years, shared it with hundreds of travellers, and I am here to tell you: there is nowhere on earth quite like it. This is not a brochure. This is a guide from someone who actually lives here โ€” and who wants you to leave changed.

The Western Cape is not one story. It is many, layered over one another like the geology of the Swartberg Mountains: the ancient, wide-open silence of the Cape Karoo; the drama of the Cape Peninsula with its cliff roads, wine estates, and two oceans; and the cultural, culinary, and social heartbeat of Cape Town itself. Across all of them runs a single thread โ€” the generosity of a land that asks only that you show up with an open mind and a willingness to go beyond the obvious.
