LUSAKA 1 LEADS IN PRIMARY ELECTIONS

United Party for National Development (UPND), Kafue West Constituency Aspiring Candidate, Hon Obvious Summerton Mwaliteta also referred to as Lusaka 1 by his faithful supporters, has taken an early lead in primary elections.

The Lusaka political strategist and strongman has amassed 43 votes in Chikupi Ward, 35 in Kasenje, 40 votes in Kabweza and 43 in Shikoswe Ward.

Hon Mwaliteta has also garnered support in Magoba Ward getting 40 votes, 35 in Matanda and 22 votes in Shabusale Ward.

By press time, his fellow competitor Mulemwa Collins Njekwa continued trailing.

‎HH SCHEDULED TO ATTEND THE INAUGURAL 2026 AFRICA FORWARD SUMMIT IN KENYA

‎Republican President, Mr Hakainde Hichilema is tomorrow scheduled to attend the inaugural 2026 Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya which will take place from 11th to 12th, May, 2026.
‎
‎The event themed"Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth", will be co-hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and the University of Kenya.
‎
‎This summit aims to showcase African innovation and foster equal partnerships between Africa and France in sectors like technology, investment and trade.
‎
‎President Hichilema intends to highlight Zambia's progress in renewable energy and responsible mining, including digital connectivity and modernized agriculture as well as fairer global financial systems and climate solutions.

The Africa Forward Summit is also known as the Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth Summit.
‎
‎Several other African leaders will be in attendance of which the summit has attracted about 4000 delegates including business leaders and youth representatives.
‎
‎The Head of State is expected to return to Lusaka immediately after conclusion of the summit's engagements.

‎FIRST FAMILY ATTENDS THE SDA BIG SABBATH FESTIVAL OF THE LAITY

‎Today Republican President, Mr Hakainde Hichilema and First Lady Mutinta Hichilema attended the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Big Sabbath Festival of the Laity at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
‎
‎Where the Head of State an Adventist and invested Master Guide, was honoured with an award for Exception Support to Adventist Mission.
‎
‎President Hichilema urged citizens to embrace unity, love, and compassion to build a harmonious nation.
‎
‎He also emphasised on strengthening family values, encouraged couples to care for each other and children.
‎
‎The Head of State commended the church for its work in nurturing good citizenship noting the growing membership.
‎
‎And described the Big Sabbath as a true blessing which enabled brothers and sisters in Christ, not only from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but also from other Christian denominations to worship together and listen to uplifting messages about the soon coming King.
‎
‎The service included the SDA General Conference President, Elder Ted Wilson and his wife Nancy.

SUPPORT YOUNG WOMEN IN POLITICS

In respect to Act No.13 of 2025, women, youths and those differently abled have come on board to fully participate in the governance system.

The people of Zambia should support more youth in politics especially young women as they are equally dedicated to duty in national governance.

President Hakainde Hichilema and his UPND New Dawn Government should be applauded for enacting this law, as he has made the environment favourable devoid of cadreism enabling more women and youths to fully participate in national affairs.

‎The appointment of Mr Jito Kayumba, President Hakainde Hichilema's Assistant and Advisor for Finance and Investment by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), to its Commercial and Market Advisory Committee is a pathway that will unlock investment for the association.
‎
‎As this appointment is part of a strategic push to stabilise the association's finances and leverage high-level expertise to modernise football administration in the country.
‎
‎Mr Kayumba is expected to use his background as an investment professional to identify both public and private sector funding.
‎
‎The Finance and Investment Assistant and Advisor to President Hichilema will play a critical role in supporting FAZ's effort's to dismantle long-standing legacy debts that have hindered the association's operations.
‎
‎His presence strengthens the bridge between national economic policy and sports development, ensuring football growth aligns with broader national strategies.
‎
‎The Committee aims to bridge financing gaps and ensure operational continuity, moving FAZ toward a model of long-term commercial sustainability.
‎
‎And with his powerful layer of policy insight, Mr Kayumba will help the association navigate complex financial regulations and investment connectivity.
‎
‎He serves on this 17-member ad-hoc committee alongside prominent figures like Ms Mizinga Melu, Chief Executive Officer of ABSA Zambia.

‎Whom did the Lusaka City Council Councillors in their Chambers consult to rename the Simon Mwewa Lane Market to HH Lumumba Market?

‎We need to be grateful that, the market in question is located on a critical ground of which the UPND New Dawn Government has done tremendously well to restore sanity which was lost in the previous government.
‎
‎Renaming the market to HH Lumumba Market is not a bad idea as it reasonates well with the contribution of President Hakainde Hichilema towards restoration of the rule of law which has enabled peace and unity resulting in productivity as he has banned cadreism.
‎
‎UPND Councillors should not play to the opposition gallery, in being moved by any agenda perpetrated by leadership at Lusaka City Council which is not in tandem with consensus.
‎
‎As this can be used as a campaign tool by the frustrated and desperate opposition which is doing everything possible to win the 13th August, 2026 general election.
‎
‎We recognise and applaud the swift action by the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Hon Gift Sialubalo for revoking the full Lusaka City Council meeting's resolution which was made today to rename Simon Mwewa Lane Market to HH Lumumba Market.
‎
‎President Hichilema’s name should not be dragged in such manouvres by those seeking readoption or otherwise, for he is Zambia's political man of valour with an impeccable character.
