‎In a bold stride toward ending menstrual poverty and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation in rural Zambia, World Vision Zambia has officially launched TheFlowFund, an innovative campaign to raise K700,000 by December 2025 to provide quality reusable sanitary towels to 5,000 girls.

OVER 1,000 YOUTHS TO GAIN JOB SKILLS AS ZNS TRAINING RETURNS AFTER DECADES

‎Lusaka, Zambia.

‎In a strategic push to empower grassroots communities, the Government has allocated over K17 million to relaunch the ZNS Voluntary Skills Training Programme, offering hundreds of Zambian youths a lifeline to self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

‎The funding, released under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, will facilitate the revival of the training initiative that had been dormant for decades. The move aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to equip young people with practical skills that can translate into job creation and income generation.

‎Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Maambo Haamaundu, confirmed that seven youths from each of the 156 constituencies will form the first intake, with applications opening in July and selections finalised before the end of the month.

‎“This programme is designed to produce skilled, entrepreneurial young citizens who can stand on their own and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Mr. Haamaundu said.

‎The selected youths will undergo training in key trades at ZNS Skills Centres in Eastern, Copperbelt and Northern Provinces, preparing them to participate actively in Zambia’s emerging industries while addressing unemployment challenges across communities.

‎The revival of the ZNS Voluntary Skills Training Programme underscores the New Dawn Government’s commitment to inclusive development by prioritising practical, sustainable solutions that directly empower young people across all constituencies.

‎The award, presented by Vice President W.K. Mutale Nalumango, celebrates the Ministry’s proactive measures to safeguard communities and ecosystems from climate risks while fostering sustainable livelihoods across the country.

OVER K400 MILLION UNSPENT AS COUNCILS DELAY COMMUNITY PROJECTS

‎Reported by: The Agency Media.
‎Date: 2nd July, 2025.
‎Lusaka, Zambia.

‎The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has sounded the alarm over more than K400 million in unspent community development funds, warning councils that delays in project implementation are undermining efforts to uplift communities across Zambia.

‎Despite the Treasury disbursing K2.7 billion for the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and K1.3 billion for the Cash for Work (CFW) Programme for the year 2025, a recent review revealed that over K404 million remains idle in sector accounts, funds meant for critical infrastructure and local economic empowerment initiatives.

‎Permanent Secretary (Administration) Dr. Gabriel Pollen, expressed concern that these delays are depriving communities of improved services, employment opportunities and infrastructure that the funds are intended to deliver.

‎“We expect local authorities to accelerate utilisation and reach at least an 85% burn rate, ensuring that every Kwacha translates into tangible community benefits,” Dr. Pollen said, adding that councils risk disciplinary measures for continued inaction.

‎Meanwhile, the government has extended the Cash for Work Programme, which was initially scheduled to end in June 2026, following a directive by President Hakainde Hichilema to cushion vulnerable households affected by the recent drought. The extension will ensure that families continue to earn an income through community-based projects while preparing for the next farming season.

‎The Ministry reported that over 382,000 beneficiaries across 87 districts have so far benefited from the programme, which provides short-term employment while enhancing community assets such as roads and water points.

‎Dr. Pollen emphasised the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability and effective service delivery, urging councils and implementing partners to clear payment arrears and fast-track project ex*****on to avoid bottlenecks that stall development at the community level.

CHISAMBA LEADS ZAMBIA'S SOLAR FUTURE WITH 100MW CLEAN ENERGY LAUNCH

‎Reported by: The Agency Media.
‎Date: 30th June, 2025.
‎Chisamba, Central Province, Zambia.

‎Chisamba, once known primarily for its vast farmlands, has now become a symbol of Zambia’s clean energy revolution as President Hakainde Hichilema commissioned the 100MW Chisamba Solar Plant, marking a pivotal shift in the nation’s development landscape.

‎Far beyond a technical milestone, the solar plant represents a story of community transformation, resilience, and Zambia’s deliberate pivot from energy insecurity toward sustainable prosperity. Locals who once watched trucks raise dust on village roads now see lines of gleaming panels quietly harvesting the sun to power homes, schools and industries.

‎“This is not just a solar plant, it’s a symbol of our collective will to transform Zambia into a nation that provides for its people while protecting the environment,” President Hichilema declared, calling on residents to safeguard the plant as a generational asset.

‎The President acknowledged the critical role of Chief Chamuka, who provided land for the project and highlighted the collaboration with Power China, Kariba North Bank, ZESCO and Stanbic Bank, which brought the vision to life within just 10 months.

‎Importantly, the project’s benefits will ripple directly into the local economy, with the President directing ZESCO to prioritize local industries and communities in Chisamba for power supply, helping to create jobs and enhance productivity.

‎Energy Minister Makozo Chikote described the solar plant as a living testament to the country’s commitment to clean energy and a reliable power future, underscoring that this was “delivery in action, not politics.”

‎Meanwhile, ZESCO Managing Director Justin Loongo affirmed that the Chisamba Solar Plant is the largest commissioned to date in Zambia, with additional solar projects lined up for Chipata, Kasama, Serenje, Kafue and Choma, forming the backbone of Zambia’s solar expansion strategy.

‎For Chisamba MP Chushi Kasanda, the solar plant is more than an energy project, it is a beacon of hope that aligns with the district’s inclusive development efforts and a testament to the Government’s priorities, including free education and food security.

‎Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa emphasized that improved energy access is catalyzing new industries in the province, providing opportunities for youth and supporting agricultural processing ventures.

‎Meanwhile, a representative from Power China stated that the company is simply responding to President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of generating 1,000MW of clean energy by the end of 2025. The representative noted that the 100MW Chisamba Solar Plant is part of the broader journey toward achieving the New Dawn Government’s ambitious clean energy targets

‎Phase Two of the solar project, which will add another 100MW, is set to commence in July 2025, promising even greater energy security at a reduced cost due to infrastructure already in place.

‎From the silent hum of inverters to the determined smiles of local entrepreneurs, the Chisamba Solar Plant represents a new dawn, positioning Zambia as a green energy investment hub while empowering local communities to thrive under the sun.
