WE WILL DO EVERYTHING TO WIN AGAINST MOROCCO-GRANT

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant says his side respects Morocco but will do everything to beat the two-time CHAN champions when the two sides meet on Thursday at the Nyayo Stadium.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Grant said the team had stepped up ahead of the Morocco assignment.

“We didn’t want to lose the two games but it is part of the game. We are concentrating in our team not opponents. Sometimes you lose and draw. We will not copy Morocco but play something that is good for us. We respect Morocco and they play good,” he said.
“There is no perfect game. We created chances but it happens. We will do everything to win tomorrow. We need to have the winning mentality, show the character after the disappointing two losses. We hope the players react well.”

Grant challenged his players to show that they were good enough to win a place in the senior team by playing at the CHAN.

“CHAN is a good platform for the local based players to show themselves. Our target is to have many players pay in Europe,” he said.

He said that he expected an improved performance on Thursday when the team faces Morocco.

“We saw them against Congo. It was not a good game, we did better against Angola and I expect more development going into this game,” he said.

Zambia faces Morocco on Thursday at the Nyayo National Stadium in a must win encounter to keep their hopes of reaching the quarterfinals alive.

Kenya top Group A on seven points with Angola lying second on four while DR Congo and Morocco have three points with Zambia lying at the base with naught points.

Kenya and Angola have played three games while the remaining members have only played two.

Top two teams in the group will qualify to the quarterfinals of the TotalEnergies CHAN 2024.

GOVT ADMITS CONTAMINATION IN SOME PARTS OF KITWE

Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Engineer Collins Nzovu, today acknowledged that water contamination is a reality in some areas of Kitwe. Speaking to Nkana Water staff in Kitwe, Hon. Nzovu assured that the government is taking proactive steps to address the pollution issue.

He revealed that both long-term and medium-term measures have been put in place to resolve the contamination problem. According to Hon. Nzovu, the long-term measures are currently underway, while medium-term solutions involve ensuring all water quality parameters meet the standards prescribed by the Zambia Bureau of Standards and the World Health Organization.

The Minister noted that some water sources have been destroyed, and contamination is present in certain areas, which the government is actively addressing. He emphasized that the government is not denying the existence of the problem but is instead working to find solutions.

SOUTH AFRICAN SUPREME COURT SETS DATE FOR LUNGU APPEAL HEARING

The Supreme Court of South Africa has set Friday, 15 August 2025, at 09:00 as the date to hear an application for leave to appeal in the case involving former Zambian First Lady Esther Lungu and seven others against the Government of the Republic of Zambia.

The notice, issued by the office of the Honourable Madam Justice Potterill, confirms that the matter will be heard on the stated date. The application arises from the Lungu family’s decision to challenge the recent High Court ruling that ordered them to surrender the body of the late former president for repatriation.

The case has continued to draw significant public and media attention in both Zambia and South Africa due to its political profile and potential implications for cross-border judicial cooperation.

The hearing on 15 August will focus solely on whether leave to appeal will be granted, which will in turn determine whether the matter proceeds to a full hearing.
