ZAMBIA POLICE AND KABWE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL UNCOVER ILLEGAL JUICE PROCESSING PLANT.

In a joint operation this afternoon, the Zambia Police in Kabwe, in collaboration with the Kabwe Municipal Council, uncovered an illegal juice processing plant in Kabwe’s Mine Area. The discovery followed a tip-off from a member of the public regarding the distribution of juice processed and packaged from a residential property, House Number M 254.

A team of Zambia Police officers, led by Central Province Commanding Officer Charity Munganga, alongside officers from the Council’s Public Health Department under Director Christopher Mtonga, inspected the site. It was confirmed that the juice, branded as "Natural Fruit Juice", was being processed and packaged in violation of the Food Safety Act of 2019 and the Public Health Act Chapter 295 of Zambian laws.

The operation was conducted under unsanitary conditions, and the packaging was deemed deceptive, constituting a criminal offense.

Authorities have seized the products, which will serve as evidence in the prosecution process. The public and business community are urged to remain vigilant and avoid selling or consuming such counterfeit products, which pose significant health risks. This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement and local authorities to safeguarding public health and enforcing regulatory compliance.

Local Market Commentary

In a statement on social media platform X, the Ministry of Finance and Planning announced that Zambia had suspended a 15% export duty on precious stones and metals in a move aimed at allowing local producers to compete more effectively in auctions and sales on the global market. According to the ministry, the measure also aims to encourage investment in the exploration and extraction of precious stones and metals beyond the reliance on traditional mineral exports for foreign exchange earnings. Moreover, the initiative will boost overall mineral production and ultimately increase the country’s foreign exchange earnings through diversified exports.
Meanwhile, in a move designed to ward off potential debt crises on the continent before they take hold, African leaders approved the creation of a $20bn continental stability fund. In a statement on Tuesday, the African Development Bank (AfDB) said the facility known as the African Financial Stability Mechanism (AFSM) would be assigned its own rating to allow it to borrow on the international capital markets. Leaders on the continent had called for the establishment of the fund in February 2022 and tasked the AfDB to carry out the preparations to set it up. The African lender now intends to move swiftly in drafting a formal agreement and securing ratification by states.
According to the AfDB, the creation of the facility was partly driven by the fact that Africa lacks its own regional financial cushion, unlike Europe and Asia, which have arrangements of this nature. If implemented as designed, the AFSM is expected to save African sovereigns around $20bn in debt servicing costs by 2035. The ASFM will lend at concessional rates, and beneficiaries will be required to commit to defined macroeconomic and fiscal reforms. Meanwhile, membership will be voluntary and open to any African Union member country willing to participate. However, a provision has been made for at least 20% of non-African members.

EVERY ECONOMY RESTS ON A STOOL OF THREE LEGS OF MONEY,CREDIT,AND WEALTH.

By Hon Ndalama 🦅

Director, Financial Growth & Partnership Development-World Entrepreneurs investment forum.

The three legs should be understood properly.
While money and credit are associated with wealth, they are not the same thing as wealth. Because money and credit can buy wealth(i.e, goods and services),the amount of money and credit you have and the amount of wealth you have look pretty the same.

But the hard truth is that, you cannot create more wealth simply by creating more money and credit. To create more wealth,a person or country has to be more productive. The relationship between the creation of wealth is often confused, yet it is the biggest driver of economic cycles.

When we look at this closely,we will see a good mutually reinforcing relationship between the creation of money and credit, and the creation of goods, services, and investment assets that are produced, the reason it gets confused as being the same.

View it from this angle:there is both financial economy and a real economy.Even if they are related, they are not the same. Each has its own supply-and-demand factors that drive it.

In the real economy, supply and demand are driven by the amount of goods and services produced and the number of buyers who want them. When the level of goods and services demanded is stable and going up and there is not enough capacity to produce the things demanded, the capacity for the real economy to grow is limited.

If demand keeps going up and and inflation rises. This is where the financial economy comes in.When there is inflation, Central Banks normally tighten money and credit to slow demand in the real economy.

Hence,we need to consider the value of money and credit, which is based on its own supply and demand. When a lot of currency is created relative to the demand for it,it decline in value.

For these reasons and others,we have to watch movements in the supplies and demand
