UPDATE ON MEASURES TAKEN REGARDING THE VIDEO MAKING ROUNDS ON VARIOUS SOCIAL PLATFORM IN LIVINGSTONE
Following the video circulating on social media showing an ancestor, UTENU, undressed and involved in a physical confrontation with a man in Livingstone, serious concern has been raised regarding the conduct of the Chijika Mukanda (Mukanda initiator) and all individuals connected to the incident.
The matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves because it touches not only on individual conduct, but also on the dignity, discipline, and traditional protocols governing Mukanda and the Makishi tradition.
Appropriate steps are being taken to establish the identities and roles of the people involved, determine how the incident occurred, and ensure that those responsible are called to account through the appropriate traditional structures and, where applicable, lawful authorities.
The Chijika Mukanda and anyone who participated in, encouraged, recorded, facilitated, or otherwise contributed to the incident should understand that traditional authority carries established expectations of discipline, respect, and accountability. Being associated with Mukanda does not place anyone above these obligations.
TRADITIONAL CONSEQUENCES
The desecration, humiliation, abuse, or improper handling of Makishi is not a matter to be taken lightly. Within the traditional understanding surrounding Mukanda, such conduct can be regarded as a serious violation of established customs and protocols.
Those who knowingly cross these boundaries should not dismiss the matter as merely a social-media incident. Traditional authorities have a responsibility to investigate the circumstances, establish accountability, and determine what appropriate traditional measures are required.
At the same time, no person should take the law into their own hands or attempt to impose punishment through violence. Any traditional consequence must be handled by the recognized custodians and authorities of the tradition, in accordance with established customs and applicable law.
The message to all involved is therefore clear:
Respect Mukanda.
Respect Makishi.
Do not provoke or physically confront an ancestor/Likishi.
Do not record, circulate, or glorify acts that violate traditional protocols.
And do not assume that such conduct carries no consequences.
The video may circulate widely, but the seriousness of the matter goes beyond social media. Those responsible must account for their actions, and the integrity and dignity of Mukanda must be protected.
