BREAKING: 18 Killed as Bus Explodes Near Bulawayo*

A Toyota Quantum minibus carrying passengers exploded into flames yesterday, 16 April 2026, on the Beitbridge–Bulawayo highway in southwest Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed approximately 18 people died in the inferno. The vehicle reportedly caught fire while traveling near Bulawayo before exploding. One victim’s body was found 100 metres from the wreckage.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known. Police say investigations are underway.

Minibus taxis are a common but often overloaded form of transport in Zimbabwe.
