In a warm display of unity and shared purpose, UPND Chairman William Banda has vowed to work hand-in-hand with chaplains across Zambia to drive community development and transformation. Speaking at a graduation ceremony for 150 chaplains at the Berea Worship Centre, Banda emphasized the critical role that faith leaders play in shaping the nation's moral fabric and promoting social cohesion.
The ceremony, which marked the culmination of the chaplains' training under the Religious Affairs and Chaplaincy Services (RACS) program, was a testament to the growing partnership between the government and faith-based organizations. Banda praised the initiative, led by Dr. Rev. William Njombo, for its efforts in equipping chaplains with the skills and knowledge needed to serve their communities effectively.
Banda's commitment to collaboration with the church is rooted in his conviction that faith and community development are intertwined. He further expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for his leadership in promoting peace and stability, particularly in the aftermath of the 2021 presidential election. The President's directive to refrain from retribution, Banda noted, was a shining example of the administration's dedication to healing and unity.
As the chaplains celebrated their achievement, Banda took the opportunity to encourage the graduates to prioritize their spiritual growth and development. He urged them to be equally committed to their faith as they are to other aspects of their lives, recognizing the vital role that spirituality plays in shaping their values and principles. By doing so, Banda believes that Zambia's spiritual growth can become a powerful force for positive change in communities and society.
The partnership between the government and faith-based organizations is a promising development for Zambia's future. By working together, the nation can harness the collective efforts of its citizens and spiritual leaders to drive development, promote social cohesion, and build a brighter future for all Zambians. As the chaplains embark on their new roles, they carry with them the hopes and expectations of their communities, and the support of leaders like William Banda.
