MAZABUKA HOSPITAL UNDER FIRE AS TWIN PRONOUNCED DEAD WAKES UP ON WAY TO MORTUARY

By Helga Chibwe

A family from Mwanachingwala Chiefdom has expressed deep disappointment over what they describe as negligence by nurses at Mazabuka General Hospital.

The concern arises after the hospital reportedly pronounced newborn twins dead, only for one of them to show signs of life while being taken to the mortuary.

According to the twins’ grandmother, the delivery began at a rural health centre in Mwanachingwala, where only one baby was delivered initially.

Due to complications, health officials arranged for an emergency transfer to Mazabuka General Hospital.

At the hospital, the second baby was delivered. However, the attending nurse reportedly informed the family that both babies were stillborn.

Shockingly, while on the way to the graveyard near the mortuary, the family noticed movement from one of the babies, who had already been wrapped for burial.

They immediately returned to the hospital to demand answers on how a living child could have been wrongly declared dead.

Some family members allege that negligence may have contributed to the death of the other twin and are calling for accountability from hospital authorities.

A press query has since been sent to Southern Provincial Health Director Dr. Calistus Kaayunga, who said he will provide a statement once full details are available.

The surviving baby is currently admitted at Mazabuka General Hospital.

THE OPPOSITION SHOULD START TELLING THE NATION EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO ONCE VOTED INTO POWER.

Members of the opposition should take advantage of president Hakainde Hchilema's alleged"FAILURES"and start telling the nation exactly what they are going to do for the nation once voted into power since they are alleging that president Hakainde Hchilema has done nothing.

We are remaining with less than 11 months before the nation goes to the polls to elect new office bearers among them, the republican president.

Up to date, the opposition is disorganized and fragmented and yet they are everyday telling the nation that president Hakainde Hchilema must go but they are not telling the nation exactly who is going to take over from president Hakainde Hchilema also what they are going to do once elected into office.

If the opposition want to come and defeat president Hakainde Hchilema convincingly in the august 2026 elections, they must field one presidential candidate so that they do not split votes and later on cry foul that elections had been rigged by president Hakainde Hchilema and the upnd party. This is a free advice to members of the opposition in Zambia.

CHURCH MOTHER BODY SPEAKS OUT ON LUNGU BURIAL DISPUTES

LUSAKA – The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has broken its silence on the ongoing impasse over the burial of late former President Edgar Lungu, condemning remarks by Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha that the State could proceed with burial without the family’s involvement.

EFZ Board Chairperson, Bishop Paul Mususu, described the Attorney General’s position as “brutal” and warned that such an approach would be both immoral and inconsistent with Zambia’s cultural values.

He said that even after the court ruling allowing the body to be repatriated to Zambia, government must keep engaging the family to ensure a dignified process.

“Regardless of the court’s judgment on Friday or any other date, dialogue must continue,” said Bishop Mususu during Radio Christian Voice’s Chatback programme, where he discussed the “Role of the Church in the ECL Burial Impasse.”

The EFZ leader also lamented the level of mockery surrounding the burial dispute, urging citizens to maintain respect during the mourning period.

“We must return to our tradition of respecting the dead and resolving disputes after burial,” he said.

Bishop Mususu’s comments come as pressure mounts on government to find common ground with the Lungu family and uphold unity in the nation.

HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP URGES PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO PARDON AILING POLITICIAN CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI

The Centre for Protection of Human Rights and Advancement of Democracy (CePHRAD) has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to exercise his prerogative of mercy on incarcerated politician Chishimba Kambwili, on the condition that he serves as an ambassador for ethnic unity across Zambia.

In a statement released by its Executive Director, Christopher Manyepa, CePHRAD said the call is rooted in the belief that the nation’s peace and unity depend heavily on political leaders embracing ethnic diversity.

“Mr. Kambwili is a well-known politician with chronic conditions of high blood pressure and diabetes, and reports indicate that his health continues to deteriorate. Having served part of his sentence, he deserves pardoning and should be given the opportunity to contribute towards the protection of human rights and the promotion of democratic governance as a changed person,” Manyepa stated.

CePHRAD argues that releasing the former minister would be a significant step toward “political healing” in the country. The organisation further proposed that Mr. Kambwili be tasked with leading a nationwide campaign to foster ethnic harmony under the auspices of CePHRAD.

“As an NGO premised on the protection of human rights and promotion of democracy, we humbly appeal to the Head of State to exercise his leniency on the ailing politician and entrust him with the responsibility of uniting Zambia,” the statement read.

Mr. Kambwili, a long-serving political figure, has been behind bars following his conviction, but human rights advocates now hope his release could mark a new chapter in reconciliation efforts.

While the Opposition have continued to play politics over
burial issues, their time to mobilize is running out

George N. Tonga writes:
A former head of state is buried by the state, the man who he sent to prison for treason has to bury him, and that man who was sent to prison has to preside over the funeral.

The state does not care what their relationships were or is it only cares what must be done for the offices that they held or hold. Thats it.

UPND Now Has MPs in All Provinces

By Mary Kachepa

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has congratulated the people of Mfuwe, Nchelenge and Mpongwe for conducting peaceful by-elections held on August 7, 2025.

Expressing his satisfaction, President HICHILEMA commended the increasing political tolerance among parties, noting with pride that the elections were free from violence.

He reiterated that political competition must centre on the exchange of ideas devoted to public service, rather than personal or partisan hostility.

President HICHILEMA stated that reports received indicated that campaign teams from various political parties campaigned side by side, competing only through their differing ideas.

He congratulated MALAMA MUFUNELO, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Mfuwe, as well as the newly elected councillors in Mpongwe and Nchelenge.

The President also paid tribute to the ruling party’s campaign teams for their commitment, emphasising that victory should serve as a unifying force, not a divisive one.

He further thanked all participating political parties for embodying the true spirit of democracy and fraternal brotherhood, encouraging that this spirit be nurtured and spread across the country.

President HICHILEMA noted that the UPND now proudly has Members of Parliament representing all ten provinces of Zambia.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by State House Chief Communications Specialist CLAYSON HAMASAKA.
