MUKANGWA SIAME SHINES BRIGHT AT ZAMBIA CLOSED TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

MUKANGWA Brooklyn Siame made headlines at the Zambia Closed Senior Tennis Championships in Ndola with a breakthrough performance that saw her reach her first-ever senior semi-final.

Mukangwa opened her campaign in dominant fashion, defeating 9th-ranked Violet Mulenga of Nkana Tennis Club 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.

She followed up with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Faith Mwelwa of Green Buffaloes in the second round.

In the quarterfinals, Mukangwa shocked everyone by defeating third-seeded Natasha Chewe, also of the Green Buffaloes, 7-5, 6-2 in a calm and unflinching display.

However, Christabel Chisongo, tournament top-ranked player, ended Mukangwa's dreams of playing singles-final as she proved to be a difficult opponent during semifinals.

Mukangwa came out firing, winning the first set 7-5 after soaring to a 5-2 lead. She, nevertheless lost the next two sets 6-2 and 6-3, but her perseverance and tenacity were evident the entire time.

Mukangwa’s run at the tournament is a testament to her growing talent, discipline, and potential.

Her performance has not only earned her national attention but also cemented her status as a promising player to watch in Zambian tennis.

What a night in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations! Zambia’s Copper Queens delivered a pulsating 3-2 victory over Senegal in a Group A showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats!

Barbra Banda was simply unstoppable, striking twice in the 12th and 74th minutes, while Racheal Kundananji added her magic touch in the 51st. Senegal fought back fiercely with N. Ndiaye netting a brace, including a late penalty but it wasn't enough to stop the Zambian charge.

The 2025 Zambia Senior Closed Tennis Championships in Ndola continue to deliver thrilling action and heartfelt moments! Dickson “Azzie” Phiri stole the spotlight with a dramatic 7-6, 6-3 win over Kanja Mtalyachalo, sending the crowd into a frenzy in what was easily the match of the day!

But it’s not just about individual brilliance, it’s a true family affair on the courts. The Mwale brothers (Owen, Jordan & Blessings), the Mabo father-son duo (Kombe Snr & Jnr), and the Chisongo twins (Isabel & Christabel) have all advanced to the pre-quarterfinals.

In a touching twist, young Nakalanga Hamayangwe defeated his uncle and former Zambia No. 1, Kondwani Gondwe, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. His brother Nabusanga and the Simbaya brothers also featured, showcasing how tennis continues to bridge generations.

The 2025 WAFCON kicked off with fireworks as Zambia and hosts Morocco played out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Barbra Banda stunned the crowd with a goal in under a minute, the tournament’s first.

Ibtissam Jraïdi hit back for Morocco from the penalty spot in the 12th minute, but Racheal Kundananji restored Zambia’s lead with a dazzling solo effort in the 27th. The Copper Queens looked set for victory until Ghizlane Chebbak broke Zambian hearts with an 87th-minute equalizer.
