Encouraged by the words attributed to our Saint of the day St. Clare "LOVE GOD, SERVE GOD, EVERYTHING IS IN THAT."

Let us pray:

O God, who in your mercy led Saint Clare to a life of poverty,
grant, through her intercession,
that, following Christ in poverty of spirit,
we may merit to contemplate you
one day in the heavenly Kingdom.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
— Amen.

To all the Franciscans and all associated with St. Clare happy feast of our Mother Clare.

BISHOP CHARLES JOSEPH SAMPA KASONDE OPENS HOUSE FOR RETIRED PRIESTS IN SOLWEZI DIOCESE OF ZAMBIA

Sunday, 10th August 2025
By Sydney Mwamainda

Rt. Rev. Charles SJ Kasonde has officially opened and blessed a house built for retired priests in the Diocese of Solwezi.

The project, supported by Zambian catholics of Solwezi Diocese based in the United Kingdom, cost approximately K2 million and took nearly seven to eight years to complete into a beautiful and fully habitable home.

The residence comprises six self-contained bedrooms—each with a wardrobe—six sitting rooms, a spacious common room, a chapel, and a kitchen, among other facilities, all under one roof.

The Catholic Women’s Organizations from the Solwezi and Kifubwe deaneries played a major role in furnishing the house, providing beds, mattresses, headboards, pillows, kitchen utensils, and many other essentials to ensure the retired priests can enjoy a comfortable and dignified retirement.

Bishop Kasonde expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Catholics from Solwezi Diocese living in the UK some of whom were present at the occasion, as well as those within the diocese, for their dedication and generosity. He also thanked all the well-wishers who supported the local women in purchasing the necessary household items.

“At the moment, Solwezi does not have any retired priests,” the bishop noted. “But in the next five years, we will have priests reaching the age of 70. In the meantime, the newly blessed and opened house will accommodate some of the priests residing at St. Kizito Parish, where the house is located.”

The blessing of the house was spiced by dance and song by Bantu Ndiwo cultural group.

Three New Priests Ordained in Solwezi Diocese

SOLWEZI, ZAMBIA – Today, August 9, 2025, Solwezi Diocese celebrated a joyous occasion at the Cathedral of St. Daniel as three deacons were ordained as priests.

The ceremony, a colorful display of faith and community, saw Dc. Amis Mushima, Dc. Emmanuel Rindiro, and Dc. Chanda Bwalya elevated to the order of the priesthood.

The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by the Right Reverend Charles Kasonde, bishop of Solwezi Diocese, who was also the ordaining bishop.

In his homily, Bishop Kasonde implored the ordinandi to be deeply dedicated to serving both the Lord and His people, emphasizing the virtues of humility and a readiness to learn from others.

"You do not know everything. So you cannot do everything. Let other people take their role while you also take yours. You cannot be everywhere," he stated.

Bishop Kasonde also stressed the importance of being available to celebrate the sacraments for God's people, wherever their ministry takes them.

The ordination marks a significant step in their spiritual journey. They will now begin their new lives as ministers of the Word and the Eucharist.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newly ordained priests and wish them God's abundant blessings as they embark on this new chapter of service.
