CHIPOLOPOLO STEP UP PREPARATIONS FOR IVORY COAST CLASH

Ahead of the Group H Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Zambia and Ivory Coast, the Chipolopolo have intensified preparations for Saturday's clash.

The Chipolopolo and the Elephants lock horns on Saturday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium at 15:00 hours.

Already qualified Ivory Coast tops Group H with 10 points while Zambia trails them with nine points.

Comoros Islands are in third place with three points while Lesotho is bottom with one point.

Three teams in Group H are battling to join Ivory Coast who have already confirmed their ticket as hosts.

A point will be enough for Zambia to punch their ticket to the AFCON.

KAPIRI GIRLS TECHNICAL SCHOOL TO RE-OPEN EXAM CLASSES ON MONDAY NEXT WEEK

The Ministry of Education has disclosed that Kapiri Girls Technical School which was last month shut down due to a spate of infernos will re-open to examination classes only, on Monday June 19th 2023.

On May 18th this year, government closed Kapiri Girls Technical School indefinitely while 10 learners were detained for questioning in connection with the suspicious fires that destroyed two dormitories.

The school experienced three fire incidents two of which started when pupils were having prep in their classrooms around 19:00 hours while the last one occurred around 01:00 hours in a compartment housing four pupils.

Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, Education Minister Douglas Syakalima says the school will re-open to non-examination classes once investigations in the fires that characterized the school are concluded.

Mr. Syakalima has disclosed that the ministry has since disbursed up to K748,000 to go towards the rehabilitation of the school and has also assured parents and the affected pupils of maximum security as the school re-opens gradually.

36-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED IN MASAITI FOR SODOMIZING HIS 6-YEAR-OLD STEP-DAUGHTER

Police on the Copperbelt’s Masaiti District have arrested a 36-year-old man named Anderson Kayola for an unnatural act after he sodomized his 6-year-old daughter twice this month.

Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, reveals that the Masaiti Police Station got a report of an unnatural offense that occurred on Saturday, June 3, 2023, around 20:00 hours, and again on Monday, June 5, 2023, around 05:00 hours at Kayola Village.

According to Mr. Mweemba, the suspect was apprehended by Chama Kapandula, a 48-year-old neighborhood watch officer, after the victim sneaked out of their home where the crimes occurred to report to her aunty, Evelyn Kayola, who contacted the Community Crime Prevention Unit-CCPU.

The unnatural crime occurred in the absence of the mother, Rabbeca Chimbwili, who had abandoned her 36-year-old husband and 6-year-old daughter following a marital argument.

Mr. Mweemba adds that the 6-year-old juvenile suffered a sore a**s, was given a medical report form, and brought to St Theresa Mission Hospital in Masaiti, where she is being treated, while the suspect is being held at Masaiti Police Station.

INVESTIGATIONS INTO INCIDENTS OF GASSING WHICH HAPPENED IN 2019 AND 2020 PROGRESSING WELL-POLICE

The Zambia Police Service would like to assure the general public that investigations relating to incidents of chemical spraying locally known as gassing which wreaked havoc and sparked widespread public disorder in the late 2019 and early 2020 are on course and progressing well.

So far police have charged and arrested four people for incidents related to gassing namely: Dr Christopher Zumani Zimba aged 43 of farm number 100 in Chongwe, Given Phiri aged 37 of unknown house number in Misisi Compound, Marlone Banda aged 36 of Plot number 811 in 12 miles area and Portipher Gwai aged 44 of Plot number 194/17 Mutendere Compound in Lusaka for the offence of being in Possession of Articles for terrorism or proliferation purposes Contrary to Section 25 of the Anti- terrorism Act number 6 of 2018 as read with Section 2 of the Amended Anti–terrorism Act number 6 of 2023. The four are yet to appear in court as a compiled docket of case is with the National Prosecution Authority charged with the responsibility of Prosecution.

Investigations in this matter are still ongoing to bring to book all those that participated in this criminal act of gassing. We want to thank everyone that assisted in this investigation.

THERE was Drama at Lusaka's Civic Centre, when a married woman attempted to get married to another man.

PHINET NKHOMA was however stopped when her Mother ALICE NKHOMA appeared at the Marriage Registrar's office to stop the union.

According to her Mother, Ms. NKHOMA received a report from her neighbours on the happening and decided to rush to the civic centre as she was disappointed to hear that her daughter had left her matrimonial home.

A 40 year old woman of Chipata’s Nabvutika Compound has allegedly been murdered by her husband following a marital dispute.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii has identified the victim as Maureen Zimba.

Mr. Liywalii told Breeze the media that the incident occurred between last week Friday and Sunday.

He explained that the victim and her spouse identified as Paul Banda had an argument which led to her being beaten and that a broken bottle was also used during the fight.

Mr. Liywalii disclosed that the deceased sustained a deep cut on her forehead and a swollen stomach before she died.

He revealed that after the incident, the suspect fled but he has now been apprehended.

The Police Commanding Officer has cautioned community members especially couples to resolve their disputes amicably.

He further urged residents to also engage family members or friends to help them come up with a solution as opposed to engaging in fights as it has negative impacts.
