POLICE CRACK DOWN ON ROAD RAGE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE

The Zambia Police Service has arrested and charged 32-year-old Francis Chinyama of Ndeke Village for alleged malicious damage to property following a road-rage incident at After-Ten Roundabout in Kitwe.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner, Rae Hamonga said in a statement that Chinyama allegedly assaulted a motorist before using a stone to damage the rear door of his Toyota Quantum after a dispute over improper parking.

Mr. Hamoonga noted that the incident, which occurred on September 11, was captured on video and circulated on social media, helping police identify and apprehend the suspect.

He said Chinyama has since been detained and is expected to appear in court, while the damaged vehicle is valued at about K3,500.

Police have warned motorists and members of the public against violence, intimidation and destruction of property during disputes.

MAFINGA MP FAITH MUNTHALI ARRESTED AND CHARGED OVER ALLEGED PUBLIC ARMED CONDUCT

The Zambia Police Service in Mafinga District, Muchinga Province, has arrested and charged Mafinga South Member of Parliament, Honourable Faith Munthali, with being armed in public and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Police say the offences are contrary to Section 85 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

According to Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Lubinda Mayamba, the alleged offences occurred between July 13 and August 14, 2026, in the Muyombe area of Mafinga District.

Police allege that during this period, Honourable Munthali was in the company of a group of men said to be serving as her security personnel.

The men are alleged to have conducted themselves in a military-like manner and were armed with machetes, slashers, cutterpults and golf clubs, allegedly causing fear and alarm among members of the public.

Honourable Munthali is jointly charged with Gift Simfukwe, Mishack Singongo and Royd Musumali.

Police say the three co-accused have already appeared before the Isoka Resident Magistrate’s Court, where they took plea.

Trial is scheduled to commence on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Honourable Munthali is currently in police custody and is expected to appear before court in due course.

The Zambia Police Service has cautioned political and community leaders against conduct that may threaten public order, cause fear and alarm, or undermine the peace and security of members of the public.

FIA Zambia urges early preparation for El Niño

Fight Inequality Alliance Zambia has called for early and serious preparations for El Niño to prevent climate shocks from worsening poverty and inequality.

FIA Zambia National Coordinator Mputa Ngalande says early action is critical in protecting vulnerable communities from the effects of climate-related disasters.

Mr. Ngalande says poor communities are often the hardest hit when climate shocks occur without adequate warning and preparedness.

He says inequality is likely to deepen if the country fails to put in place timely measures to mitigate the impact of El Niño.

Mr. Ngalande says the 2023/2024 drought exposed serious gaps in the country’s preparedness and response mechanisms.

Kawama West Police Post Vandalized Before Official Opening

Kawama West Police Post in Mufulira has been vandalized while awaiting connection to the national electricity grid and its official opening.

Unknown individuals are alleged to have stolen a water pump from the facility, with Kawama Ward Councillor Enock Kabaso saying the pump was stolen within the past three weeks.

Councillor Kabaso has also raised concern over increasing cases of theft, insults and other anti-social behaviour in the area.

Meanwhile, Zambia Police Service Copperbelt Division Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga has called for the Police Service to be involved in the planning of public projects from the outset.

NUMAW Calls For Stronger Mine Safety And Precious Minerals Policies

National Union of Miners and Allied Workers - NUMAW President Saul Simujika has called for increased efforts to improve safety standards in the mining sector.

Mr. Simujika says mine safety should remain a top priority for mining companies, Government and other stakeholders, considering the risks faced by workers in the industry.

He says mining companies must strictly adhere to occupational health and safety regulations, while ensuring that workers are provided with appropriate protective equipment and safe working environments.

Mr. Simujika has also called for regular safety inspections and increased investment in modern mining equipment to help reduce workplace accidents and protect the lives of mine workers.

He says the union expects President Hakainde Hichilema’s second term to build on the achievements of the first term, while harmonising policies surrounding precious minerals, particularly pricing and job creation.

New Solwezi Civic Leaders Assume Office

Newly elected Solwezi Mayor and councillors have officially assumed office after taking their oath during a swearing-in ceremony held in Solwezi District.

The civic leaders have been challenged to work together and prioritise development programmes aimed at addressing the needs and challenges faced by residents.

Speaking during the ceremony, Solwezi Municipal Council Town Clerk Stalney Mbewe urged the newly elected leaders to set aside political differences as they begin their duties in the council chamber.

Mr. Mbewe said the council should provide a platform for elected representatives to work collectively in the interest of residents and promote development in Solwezi.

He has further urged the civic leaders to focus on service delivery and meeting the expectations of the people who elected them.

Mufulira DC Satisfied With Progress On Ndola-Mufulira-Mokambo Road.

Mufulira District Commissioner Evaristo Chilumba has expressed satisfaction with the progress being made on the Ndola-Mufulira-Mokambo Road project.

Mr. Chilumba says construction works are progressing well and are expected to reach an advanced stage within the next two months.

He said this during an inspection of the ongoing works aimed at assessing progress on the project.

Meanwhile, AVIC International General Foreman in Mufulira, Peter Banda, says works are currently focused on preparing the road base along the Mufulira-Mokambo section for the next stages of construction.
