It was around 2009 after being off the music scene and spending some time out of the country, I returned to Zambia with a renewed vision. Back then, our studio was known as Platinum Records, but upon my return, we decided to rebrand it into Black South Entertainment. The goal was bigger than just music; we wanted to create a platform that embraced all aspects of entertainment in Mufulira.
We kicked things off with talent search programs, moving from clubs to theaters, scouting for fresh and undiscovered talent. One of our most memorable events took place in October 2009 at Top Shops, hosted at one of the most happening spots at the time ALACOTE NIGHT CLUB. The panel of judges featured myself (C-Rock), Bogger, and Paradox. The atmosphere was electric, packed with energy and excitement from both performers and the crowd.
During that event, something unexpected caught my attention. Our resident DJ had refused to let one performer go on stage due to personal differences. Curious, I approached the DJ booth to find out what was happening. The explanation didnβt sit right with me, so I insisted that the artist be allowed to perform.
The moment he started spitting his rhymes, the entire crowd was blown away the room erupted in applause. That artist was SKINT B. All three judges, myself included, gave him a perfect score of 100%, and right there, we offered him studio time.
His first single, βBURN FIRE,β producedy by myself(C-Rock) turned out to be a massive local hit, a true anthem in the ghettos, especially among the youth. From there, Skint Bβs career took off. He went on to make waves in the music scene and later got signed to various labels over the years.
To this day, Skint B remains one of the most talented artists to ever emerge from our local scene. And now, weβre thrilled to announce that heβll be part of the upcoming MUF LEGENDS SHOW scheduled for December, a moment that will surely bring back powerful memories of how it all began.
