MUFUMBWE TOWN COUNCIL LEADS COMMEMORATION OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 THROUGH INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE AT MUFUMBWE BOARDING SCHOOL
SATURDAY JUNE 6th,2026
Mufumbwe Town Council commemorated World Environment Day 2026 at Mufumbwe Boarding School yesterday by hosting an inter-school debate under the local theme “Our Land, Our Future.
The event directly supported the national theme: “Accelerating Zambia’s Climate Action for Green Growth and Sustainability”, by engaging pupils on environmental stewardship and sustainable energy solutions.
The event was graced by Ms. Nelly Andende, representing the DEBs Office, and Council Advocate Mrs. Cindy Kuikulu, representing the Council Secretary’s Office, alongside teachers and learners.
Four schools from across Mufumbwe District participated:
Mufumbwe Boarding School
Jairos Fumpa Secondary School
Mufumbwe Day School
Kalende Secondary School
Pupils debated critical environmental issues, including:
Whether loadshedding can be solved faster using solar energy than by importing electricity.
Whether solar energy is cheaper and better than hydro energy.
Whether charcoal burning should be abolished instead of being regulated.
Jairos Fumpa Secondary School emerged as the overall winner, delivering well-researched compelling arguments across all three motions.
