Chakwera Concedes defect

CREDIT -BBC -Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera has accepted that he lost last week's election.

He was speaking in a national address.

He has been trailing ex-President Peter Mutharika in the votes counted so far.

Mutharika has got about 66% of the votes compared to Chakwera's 24%.

Malawians are anxiously awaiting the final result as the election was held eight days ago.

The election commission says it has taken its time to ensure the results are accurate.

Chakwera's party had complained of "serious anomalies" during the counting process.

Malawi Electoral Commission - MEC Chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, has announced that the Commission will withhold results from Ntcheu due to irregularities in the figures.

She said the results remain under scrutiny and will only be released once the verification process is complete.

SUSPECTED SU***DE – CHELSTON POLICE STATION

September 20,2025-Chelston Police Station is investigating a case of suspected su***de involving F/Mwaba Chakolwa, a midwife at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University, who was found dead in a lodge in Meanwood on September 19,2025.

The deceased had booked into the lodge on September 18, 2025, and was discovered in her room the following day after staff noticed no activity. Police officers forced open the locked door and found her lying on the floor with a piece of cloth tied around her neck. An empty water bottle with a strong suspected insecticide smell was also recovered from the bathroom.

Her body has since been deposited at UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem. An inquiry file has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.

The Zambia Police Service wishes to caution members of the public against resorting to su***de when faced with challenges. We urge individuals going through distress to seek help from family, friends, counsellors, or community leaders. Life is precious, and help is always available.

Chama DC Arrested Over Possession of Impalas

Chama, September 20, 2025 — Chama District Commissioner, Yobe Goma, has been arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of two impalas.

According to information reaching Kanele 97.7 FM, Mr. Goma was intercepted at Chimphamba Camp while returning from Chifunda. He was in the company of the Chama Deputy District Intelligence Officer, a driver, and a messenger — all of whom have also been taken into custody.

A government vehicle the group was using has since been impounded.

The suspects have been transferred to Mpika, where they are expected to face further questioning.

A rider and his passenger have died on the spot after their motorbike collided with a motor vehicle in Lundazi District.

The accident occurred around 05:00 hours today near Tigone Secondary School about 5 kilometres South of Lundazi town along the Lundazi/Chama road.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer ROBERTSON MWEEMBA named the rider as Yobe Ngulube and his passenger as James Nkhata all of Chebele Village Chief Chifunda in Chama District.

Mr MWEEMBA said the accident occurred when the driver of the Hino Ranger registration number BAT 1984 failed to keep to his lane and ended up colliding with the motorbike which was coming from the opposite direction.

He said the driver of the vehicle GABRIEL MTONGA and his two passengers escaped unhurt.

Mr MWEEMBA said the driver of the vehicle has since been detained for causing death by dangerous driving.
