NRPUP member Binwell Mpundu has rejected government claims that a militia cell was uncovered at presidential candidate Brian Mundubile's Kabulonga residence, calling the allegations a scripted attempt to justify treason charges against opposition figures.

Mpundu argues that the men sent abroad for what he describes as special VIP training returned with no weapons, noting they passed through an international airport and questioning how any airline would allow specialised military weapons on board. He has challenged the government to publicly display the weapons it says were recovered, and maintains the story is a propaganda attempt to justify Mundubile's imprisonment.

Government says eleven people were arrested and high-grade weapons recovered during the 13 August raid. The claims remain contested and unverified.

Police in Lusaka have charged a man and a woman with criminal trespass after they were allegedly found inside a woman's home in Chalala without permission.
Th ecomplainant told police she returned from showering to find the pair, reportedly intoxicated, in her bedroom. Both have been released on bond ahead of a court appearance. Police have urged the public to respect others' privacy and property.

A clinic in Kitwe has recorded a sharp increase in demand for a long-lasting injectable HIV prevention drug, with most clients now choosing it over daily pills.

Rainford Mulenga, an Antiretroviral Therapy officer at Buchi Main Urban Clinic, said 90 percent of clients are opting for the six-month injection instead of oral Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) tablets. He attributed the shift to expanded community outreach and targeted engagement with high-risk groups.

Mr Mulenga was speaking on the sidelines of an awareness campaign run under a project by Coalition Health Zambia.
Kangwa Kasonde, the organisation's Zone Coordinator for Kitwe and Kalulushi, said both injectable and oral PrEP remain safe and accessible, and encouraged the public to take up whichever method suits them.

Mainda Simataa, who contested the Kabwata parliamentary seat as an independent in this year's general election, has announced his immediate retirement from politics. Simataa said the decision was not linked to his election result, but to concerns over his safety.

He was previously a UPND member who served as Kamwala Ward Councillor before resigning from the party in May 2026 over what he called undemocratic laws.

Former Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has questioned the opposition Tonse Alliance's plan to petition the results of the August 13 general election, after some of the alliance's supporters alleged the judiciary could be influenced by the executive to favour the ruling party.

The Tonse Alliance says it intends to challenge President Hakainde Hichilema's re-election, citing irregularities in the electoral process.

Speaking to Phoenix News, Kabimba said the opposition should seek other avenues if it does not trust the judiciary, describing it as an autonomous institution whose mandate should be respected.

The Zambia Police Service, working with joint law-enforcement agencies, has issued official call-outs for former presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and lawyer Makebi Zulu, with Inspector General Graphel Musamba confirming a multi-year investigation into activities allegedly threatening national security, including possible links to terrorism and terrorist financing.

Although the two men have reportedly taken refuge at a UN agency's premises in Lusaka, police say they know their whereabouts and have pledged that both will get full due process and their human rights protected, while also warning the public against harbouring, assisting, or financing anyone implicated in the case and cautioning that more people could be summoned as the probe continues.
