NDOLA ARCHBISHOP WARNS AGAINST 'WORLDLY' DANCING IN CHURCH

While dancing in church is often seen as an expression of praising God, some dance moves have prompted Ndola Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri to caution congregants who are in the habit of gyrating and shaking their bodies in a distracting manner during worship.

He warned Christians that dances associated with secular environments may distract others during church services and take their focus away from worship.

According to Radio Ichengelo, the Archbishop made these remarks during his pastoral visit to Holy Trinity Parish in Ndola.

Archbishop Phiri emphasized the need for order and reverence during liturgical celebrations.

He noted that while certain moments in the Mass may involve expressions of joy through movement, such expressions must remain within the boundaries of religious and liturgical practice.

"We caution against adopting dance styles commonly associated with secular settings. Such dances have the potential to shift attention away from the spiritual purpose of the service," the Archbishop said.

He added that the liturgy is a sacred time meant for worship and not entertainment.

The Catholic Archbishop therefore urged the faithful to ensure that their conduct reflects the solemnity of the occasion.

Archbishop Phiri further warned that distracting behaviour, particularly provocative dancing, can make it difficult for others to remain focused and may cause them to lose attention.

"The faithful should uphold respect and discipline during church services by ensuring that all forms of expression align with the values and teachings of the Church," added the Archbishop.
