Zambian Detective Frees 13 Suspects on New Year’s Eve, Faces Arrest

In a bizarre turn of events on New Year’s Eve, Detective Inspector Titus Phiri of the Leonard Cheelo Police Post in Lusaka, Zambia, made headlines after reportedly freeing 13 detainees while intoxicated. The suspects, held on charges ranging from assault to robbery and burglary, were instructed to "cross into the new year freely" after Phiri forcibly took the cell keys from a fellow officer.

The unusual incident left the local police force in a state of disarray as a manhunt was immediately launched to recapture the escaped suspects. Meanwhile, Detective Phiri himself went on the run but has since been arrested and is expected to face legal proceedings.

The story has sparked a mix of reactions on social media, with some users questioning the integrity of law enforcement, while others have turned the incident into a humorous "only in Zambia" meme.

Authorities have promised swift action against both Phiri and the fugitives, emphasizing their commitment to restoring public trust. As the police continue their investigations, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical role discipline plays in maintaining law and order.
