NEW COUNCIL LEADERSHIP TAKES OATH OF OFFICE IN LUSANGAZI

LUSANGAZI, 8TH SEPTEMBER 2026 — A new chapter for Lusangazi Town Council has officially commenced, following the administration of the Oath of Office/Solemn Affirmation to the newly elected Council Chairperson and Ward Councillors.

The ceremony, held at the Lusangazi Civic Centre on Tuesday, marked the formal assumption of office for the local government leaders following the 2026 General Elections.

The proceedings were presided over by Resident Magistrate Honourable Misozi Banda, who administered the Oath of Office and Solemn Affirmation to the elected officials.

His Royal Highness Chief Sandwe graced the occasion, representing the traditional leadership. Chief Nyamphande was notably absent from the ceremony.

In attendance was the outgoing Council Chairperson, Mr. Blackson Selemani Tembo, who extended his congratulations to the incoming Council Chairperson, Mr. Goffrey Daka, and the newly elected councillors.

Speaking during the ceremony, newly elected Council Chairperson Mr. Goffrey Daka described his election as a profound responsibility entrusted to him by the people of Lusangazi. He thanked the electorate for their confidence in him and his fellow councillors, while extending a hand of friendship to those who may not have supported them during the elections.

Emphasising the need to move forward, Mr. Daka declared, "We are now one Council, one community, and one Lusangazi." He stressed that the conclusion of the elections should herald a new phase of cooperation and development.

Mr. Daka pledged to lead the Council on the principles of good governance, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and dedicated service. He underscored that the office of Council Chairperson should be viewed as one of service rather than privilege. He committed the new administration to working collaboratively with Council Management and staff to ensure public resources are responsibly managed for the benefit of local communities.

Calling for unity, he urged councillors to set aside political and personal differences, reminding them that decisions made in the Council Chamber have a direct impact on residents' lives and must always be guided by the people's aspirations.

Recognising the pivotal role of traditional leadership, Mr. Daka pledged to strengthen the relationship between the Council and traditional leaders. He assured that they would be actively engaged on matters affecting communities across Lusangazi, particularly in maintaining peace, unity, cultural values, and community development.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Sekani re-echoed the words of the incoming Chairperson, who stated that the time for politics had passed because the people made their choice on 13th August 2026. He reminded the councillors to embrace the vision of the Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Sammy Hichilema, whose vision is now to grow Zambia.

Mr. Sekani also encouraged residents to actively participate in local governance, reminding them that the Council belongs to the community.

The ceremony was attended by Council Management and staff, Government representatives, political and community leaders, members of the clergy, traditional leaders, the media, and other invited guests.

As the new administration commences its term, all stakeholders are called upon to work together to ensure that the trust placed in the elected leaders translates into improved service delivery and tangible, meaningful development across Lusangazi.
