The Electoral Commission of Zambia in Senga Hill District has successfully concluded the filing for the National Assembly, Council Chairperson and Ward Nominations ahead of the 13th August 2026 General Elections.

Several candidates successfully filed their nominations for the different elective positions, marking an important milestone in the electoral process as the district prepares for the forthcoming general elections.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has since encouraged all candidates and their supporters to continue promoting peace, tolerance and issue-based campaigns during the campaign period.

SIKAZWE GOES INDEPENDENT IN SENGA HILL RACE

Former Senga Hill Constituency Member of Parliament Henry Sikazwe has officially filed his nomination papers to contest as an independent candidate in this year's general elections.

Mr. Sikazwe, who has represented the constituency for the past five years, is seeking re-election after being left out of the ruling UPND party’s adoption process.

The UPND adopted Safeli Mulenga, popularly known as "Lwamba," as its candidate for the Senga Hill parliamentary seat. Mr. Mulenga filed his nomination papers on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Mr. Sikazwe's decision to contest as an independent candidate is expected to intensify the race for the constituency as campaigns gather momentum ahead of the polls.

Residents Living in Fear After Lions Spotted in Communities bordering Senga Hill, Lunte and Mpulungu Districts.

Residents of areas surrounding Kopeka, Mulonda, Mupundu, Makabe, Chinjilima and other communities bordering Senga Hill, Lunte and Mpulungu Districts are reportedly living in fear following sightings of lions in the area.

Former Isunga Ward Councillor in Mpulungu District, Samuel Chikombo, disclosed that three goats were allegedly killed by the lions at Shimwalota Village.

He further revealed that another three goats were attacked and eaten in the early hours of Monday, 18th May 2026, at Kandondo Village.

Mr. Chikombo told Isunga News that the incidents prompted him to alert the Department of National Parks and Wildlife in Kasama, which subsequently engaged officers from Nsumbu National Park.

The officers are reportedly on the ground conducting operations aimed at capturing the lions.

He has since advised residents in the affected communities to remain vigilant, avoid moving alone during odd hours, and travel in groups where possible to reduce the risk of attacks.

He also encouraged livestock owners to ensure their animals are properly secured.

Meanwhile, Benson Lyapa Simbao of Kopeka Village has appealed to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife to urgently track the animals and bring the situation under control.

The duo spoke to Isunga News in separate phone interviews.
