🕊️ SAD NEWS | DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT💔

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Greham Kawatu, who departed this life in the early hours of today following a short illness in Manyama, Kalumbila District.

The funeral house is reported to be in Mwinilunga, along Muzina–Muvumbu Road.

Further details regarding the repatriation of his remains will be communicated once the family has provided an update.

During this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, friends, and all who knew and loved him. May God grant the family strength, comfort, and peace as they mourn this painful loss.

May his soul rest in eternal peace. 🕊️🕯️

THE ZAMBEZI SOURCE INDEPENDENCE NATIONAL MONUMENT

Deep in the Zambezi Source National Forest, about 20 kilometers from Ikelenge Boma, a small stream of clean water flows out from under a tree. It is so small that you can easily step over it, but this little spring is where a great river begins. On October 24, 1964, the day Zambia became an independent country, our first leaders went straight to this forest instead of going to Lusaka first. They put up a copper plate that thanks all the brave men and women who fought for our freedom.
Our leaders chose this place because it shows where our nation really started. The name Zambia comes from the Zambezi River. In the Lunda language, Zambezi comes from the words "Nzambi Enzi," which mean "God Come." This means Zambia is the "Land of God." Because our country is named after this river, the place where the river begins is also the birthplace of Zambia. To protect this history, the government made it a National Monument. The surrounding forest is also protected because a special plant called Elaphoglossum zambesianum grows here and nowhere else in the world.
When you stand at this monument, you are standing at the start of something big. A tiny drop of water here grows into a giant river that brings electricity through the Kariba Dam, creates the Victoria Falls, and travels all the way to the Indian Ocean. It is a special place in Ikelenge where the story of a river and the story of a nation begin together.
