ENERGY EXPERT COMMENDS ERB ON FUEL PUMP PRICE

Energy Expert, Boniface Zulu say's Energy Regulations Board's (ERB) decision to maintain fuel prices for August 2025 is both commendable and concerning.

‎In a statement made available to ZANIS in Chilanga District, Mr Zulu indicated that while the move provides short-term relief to consumers, it also raises concerns about the long-term viability of the petroleum supply chain and broader economic implications.

‎He explained that maintaining pump prices at K28.00 per litre for petrol and K23.13 per litre for diesel offers stability for households and businesses grappling with inflation and economic uncertainty.‎

‎Mr Zulu noted that the Kwacha's 4.04 percent gain against the US dollar in July, from K24.27 to K23.29, helped offset rising international oil prices, particularly for diesel and Jet A-1.

‎He, however, noted that the decision creates a distorted pricing structure that doesn't reflect actual market conditions.

‎U.S. WITHDRAWS HEALTH STAFF FROM KITWE OVER MINE SPILL RISKS.

‎The United States has pulled all government health personnel from Kitwe and surrounding areas following the Sino Metals Mine tailings dam spill on the Copperbelt.

‎The U.S. government says the spill released dangerous substances such as arsenic, cyanide, uranium, and other heavy metals, which pose serious health risks in both the short and long term.

‎It warns that contaminants have polluted water and soil and may become airborne, creating further risks if inhaled.

‎As a precaution, U.S. health workers have been removed from Chambishi, Kitwe, and all areas along the Chambishi Stream and Mwambashi River up to the Mwambashi-Kafue confluence.

‎The health personnel have also been instructed to avoid Kitwe if dependent on municipal water or food cooked with it.

‎American citizens near the Sino Metals Leach Mine in Chambishi and downstream areas to Kitwe are urged to avoid exposure to contaminated water and food.

‎This is according to a statement issued on the U.S Embassy Zambia page.
