SIX MILLION CONDOMS STOCKED FOR KULAMBA TRADITIONAL CEREMONY

Eastern Province has been stocked with more than six million condoms ahead of the Kulamba traditional ceremony of the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique set for this Saturday in Katete.

Provincial Health Director Dr. Mathews Ng’ambi said the supply, part of an expected consignment of over eight million condoms, will support sexual health measures during the event, which is expected to attract thousands of participants.

The Kulamba Ceremony brings together Chewa chiefs from more than 200 chiefdoms across the three countries to celebrate their shared cultural heritage.

SA GOVT HOPES CONCOURT RULING CLEARS WAY FOR LUNGU’S BURIAL IN ZAMBIA

By Darius Choonya

The South African government says it hopes the Constitutional Court’s decision to decline hearing a direct appeal by former President Edgar Lungu’s family against the repatriation of his body will bring finality to the matter and allow Mr. Lungu to be buried in Zambia.

Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola has told journalists that his government is optimistic the Zambian government and the Lungu family will agree on the burial arrangements.

He says from the beginning, South Africa has encouraged dialogue between the two parties.

Former President Lungu died on June 5, 2025, but debate over his burial site remains unresolved.

On August 26, 2025, the Lungu family spokesperson Makebi Zulu confirmed that the family had been approached by the Zambian government for negotiations on the matter.

Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, who is leading the negotiation team, said government intends to give Mr. Lungu a dignified send-off befitting a former Head of State.

High Court to rule in Lusambo’s four year jail appeal!

The Lusaka High Court is today August 27, 2025 expected to deliver ruling in the appeal case of former Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo, who is currently serving a four-year jail term for corruption-related charges.

Mr. Lusambo is challenging both his conviction and sentence, which were handed down by the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court over allegations of fraudulent acquisition of public property and conspiracy to defraud the government.

A panel of three judges Justices Susan Wanjelani, Pixie Yangailo, and Anna Malata-Anonuju heard the appeal earlier this year.

His defense, led by lawyer Makebi Zulu, argues that the trial court misdirected itself both in law and fact.

But the State insists the conviction was sound, saying testimony from public officers and financial tracing proved that Mr. Lusambo abused his position to influence the allocation and sale of public property for personal gain.

Meanwhile, at the last court appearance May 21st 2025,, Correctional Service officers blocked journalists from filming Mr. Lusambo as he left the courtroom.

68-MAN GRUSOMESOMELY MURDERED BURRIED IN A SHALLOW GRAVE IN MAMBWE

A 68-year-old man has been brutally murdered and buried in a shallow grave in Msoro Chiefdom of Mambwe District.

The victim, Henry Nkhoma was discovered on the morning of August 26th, 2025, after children grazing cattle stumbled upon a human leg protruding from the earth near Mtetezi Stream.

Eastern Province Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has told Diamond News that Nkhoma had been reported missing since the evening of August 20th after he was last seen having supper at his younger brother Steven Zulu’s house.

Despite an extensive search by relatives, he failed to return home.

The discovery was made six days later, with the body found in a bent position in what police describe as a hastily dug shallow grave.

The scene was initially identified by the deceased’s brother, Steven Zulu, who was alerted by a neighbour.

Mr. Zulu suspected the remains were those of hisu missing brother but did not disturb the site and immediately reported the matter to the Msoro Police Post, which has now launched a full scale investigation.

No arrests have been made and the motive for the murder remains unknown and the public is being urged to provide any information that could lead to arrests of people involved in this generous crime.
