Mwaka, Kazadi and one other arrested for circulating obscene material!

Police in Lusaka have arrested and formally charged filmmaker David Kazadi, model Mwaka Halwiindi and Ruby Muzandu in connection with the production and distribution of pornographic material, following a viral video that sparked public outrage on social media.

Police confirmed the arrests in a statement released today, saying the trio has been charged under Section 177 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, which criminalizes the creation and dissemination of obscene materials.

Mwaka Halwiindi, 23, has been charged with two counts of making or producing obscene videos likely to corrupt morals. Her arrest follows the circulation of a video in which she is allegedly seen engaging in sexual acts with multiple men.

Ruby Muzandu, also 23, has been charged with one count of conveying or exporting obscene material.

David Kazadi, 34, has been charged with two counts of producing and two counts of circulating obscene content, believed to be linked to the same footage.

“The offences committed by the accused involve the creation, distribution, and transmission of content deemed to be obscene and likely to corrupt public morals,” said Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga. adding that the materials were discovered through intelligence-led investigations and digital surveillance conducted by the Cybercrime Unit.

All three suspects are currently in lawful custody and are expected to appear in court in the coming days.

Hamoonga issued a stern warning to the public, emphasizing that producing and circulating obscene content are serious criminal offences.
“We wish to reaffirm our commitment to upholding law and order, especially in the digital space, and will not relent in bringing offenders to justice,” he said.

5-year-old dies in Kalomo house fire while father watched football

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD child has tragically died in a house fire that occurred on Friday evening in Kalomo District, Southern Province, after being left unattended while his father reportedly went to watch a football match.

Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka confirmed the death of Joas Muchanga, in a statement.

According to Daka, the child's mother, Gravy Simpweze, 26, had left her children in the care of her husband, Josen Muntanga, 29, to visit her parents.

However, Muntanga reportedly left the children at a neighbor's house around 14:00 hours and departed to watch a football match.

The devastating incident occurred around 17:00 hours at Mweebo Village when neighbours noticed flames engulfing Muntanga's residence.

“Efforts to extinguish the blaze led to the heartbreaking discovery of the remains of Joas Muchanga, aged 5, who had been burnt to death in the fire,” Daka disclosed.

“Muntanga was immediately informed of the incident and returned home, only to confirm the death of his child.”

He then contacted his cousin, Brighton Lusaka, 65, who reported the matter to the police.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing.
