CORRUPTION HAS NO PLACE IN HR PROFESSION, SAYS SOUTHERN PROVINCE MINISTER

Southern Province Minister Hon. Credo Nanjuwa has warned human resource professionals against engaging in corruption, favoritism, and nepotism, stressing that such conduct undermines institutional integrity and hinders national progress.

Speaking during the Second Human Resource Excellence Awards Ceremony hosted by the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHRM) in Livingstone, Hon. Nanjuwa said HR practitioners must serve as models of transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership.

He said human resource management had evolved from being a support function to becoming a strategic pillar of national development, adding that the success or failure of any organisation depends on how well people are managed and motivated.

The Minister commended ZIHRM for promoting professionalism and ethical conduct in the sector, saying the institute had been instrumental in transforming workplace culture through strong leadership and innovation.

Hon. Nanjuwa reaffirmed government’s commitment to placing human capital at the centre of Zambia’s development agenda. He noted that ongoing recruitment in the health, education, and public sectors, as well as youth empowerment through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), were part of efforts to build a skilled and motivated workforce.

He further reminded HR practitioners of their critical role in promoting merit-based recruitment and fairness, warning that compromised processes could damage public trust and institutional efficiency.

The Minister urged ZIHRM to continue working closely with government in advancing professional standards and aligning HR strategies with Vision 2030 and the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP).

He concluded by congratulating the award recipients and nominees for their contribution to ethical leadership and organisational excellence, saying the awards served as a reminder that integrity and innovation remain key drivers of national progress.

NO BAIL. NO BOND. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

We have cried. We have begged. We have protested. We have written letters, statements, and petitions. Yet, far too often, survivors of sexual violence see their abusers walk free while they continue to live in fear. This must end.

I welcome Cabinet’s approval of the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill 2025, which, if passed into law, will make defilement, r**e, and in**st non-bailable offences. But approval alone is not enough — this Bill must move swiftly through Parliament and be implemented without delay.

It makes no sense that someone accused of abuse can be released on bond or bail, sometimes returning to the same home or community as their victim. Imagine the mental torture, the daily fear, the threats. No child, no young woman, no survivor should endure that. Every day an abuser walks free is another day of trauma, another day of injustice.

This is not just about legislation. It is about protecting our children, our communities, and our future. It is about sending a clear message that Zambia will no longer tolerate abuse, and that perpetrators will not find shelter in bonds or bail. Survivors deserve justice. Zambia deserves accountability.

I call on Parliament and all leaders to act urgently. No bail. No bond. Not this time. Not ever again.

PEDESTRIAN ZEBRA CROSSINGS

It is important that we find ways to protect pedestrians using zebra crossings in Livingstone Constituency. Some motorists do not stop at these crossings, even when they see pedestrians.

Stop signs are needed at such crossings, and CCTV cameras should be installed to help enforce road safety regulations.

I took a walk into the town centre and noticed that some motorists are ignoring the importance of zebra crossings.
