Zimbabwean musician Braveman Chizvino, popularly known as Baba Harare, has announced his return to the Jiti music genre. In a recent Facebook post, the artist wrote, "Good morning Jiti family. Shoko rakasvika. I am coming back to assume my rightful throne. Hazviite kuti musare musina baba. Album loading..." (The message has arrived. I am coming back to assume my rightful throne. It's not right that you are left without a father. Album loading...).
This announcement follows a period where Baba Harare had shifted his focus away from his signature Jiti sound. Over the past year, he had publicly announced a conversion to Christianity and a move into gospel music. This decision was widely covered by the Zimbabwean media, with Baba Harare himself stating that leaving Jiti music was "the best decision I have made in my life." He even launched an album, "Repentance," to solidify this new direction.
His departure from Jiti music, a genre he is credited with popularizing, was a surprise to many fans who loved his energetic and danceable tunes. However, the reasons for his shift were deeply personal and spiritual. He spoke about his new life dedicated to God and the meaning gospel music had for him.
Now, with his latest social media post, it appears Baba Harare is responding to his fans' wishes, signaling a significant U-turn and a return to the music that made him a household name. His declaration of an "album loading" suggests a full-fledged comeback to the Jiti scene, and his fans are already expressing excitement at the prospect of new music from the "Jiti king."
