By HDN The build up to the release of Akiliz video reminds me of the wait we experienced during the coup that was not a coup, how we waited for the resignation of RG Mugabe as President. Speculations, Theories, Fake news, all were the order of the day. Then when we all thought that the day had come, Sunday 19th November the world stood still, all eyes on Zimbabwe, the resignation of RG Mugabe was eminent until he said “Good night, Asante Sana”. BY OTIS MABIKWA They report on the millions of dollars we spend on building hotels but never on the millions of children that starve every day. They like to tell use we’re all different, you’re black, you’re white, you’re colored, you’re Shona, and you’re Ndebele, giving us all these labels only to gen up votes on racial and tribal lines. These political labels being exploited by incompetent opportunists and spin masters who support the politics of anything goes. [ 330 more words ]

After a series of conversations with friends and family it is clear that while we celebrate Gushungo’s exit we have not forgotten how he stayed in power in the first place. It was the very same army and police that kept him there especially after the 2008 election. Some of my friends even stated that there was no cause for celebration as the same establishment that had victimised us for over three decades was still in power and all its structures still in place. One pretty lady (not an important detail but her beauty is astounding) told me that she felt no reason to celebrate because Mugabe’s exit was like a neighbour’s birthday party: that it was “okay to feel happy and cheer them on but the joy and achievement is not really yours to enjoy”. I agree with her, the true winners here are not Zimbabwean citizens, it’s the Zanu PF party. Now they can shore up their grip on power in preparation for next year’s elections. They have gotten rid of the figures that were “splitting the party.”

The coup that’s not a coup has brought about a precedence that I honestly do not want to see continue. Once a coup takes place, it is almost certain that more coups will take place in that country. Just look at North and West African states were I’d go so much as to say they have a culture of coups (but not the bloodless one we had, the real coups with death and violence). That scares me more than the thought of the effect of global warming on our climate (topic for another day)...

President Mugabe resigns
After nearly four decades in power, a life time for most people, the president of the former Jewel of Africa finally called it quits on the 21st of November while his impeachment had just begun. The 93 year old, former president of Zimbabwe has been the only president Zimbabwe precolonial Zimbabwe.
Having protests country wide as from last week, a lot will argue the real independence of Zimbabwe is on the 18th of November, this being the day people rose up against the indifference and carelessness, marching together as one having directly laughed in the face of tribalism which was perpetuated since Mugabe came into power.
It is no secret that former president Mugabe did not act in the best interest of the Zimbabwean people, this being the match which sparked economic sanctions to be imposed on the former bread basket of Africa. To no surprise these sanctions known as ZIDERA have been the reason for the turmoil and suffering in Zimbabwe. They have turned recessions to economic depressions to deadly inflation twice in less than ten years a new record in the world, while running away from the honest truth that the river of corruption had turned into a swamp in which all his cabinet members drunk from.
Amid the cynicism and skepticism we do have to acknowledge that at first Bob did try to make Zimbabwe a better place, Julius Malema the South African politician once said he admired former president Mugabe for his land reform as Zimbabwe was one of the few if not the only country which its people had the right to land. Bearing this in mind he also did facilitate the building of a lot of schools and hospitals, Zimbabwe having one of the highest literacy rates in Africa, exporting the finest doctors and engineers.
It could be that Zimbabweans did not liberate themselves from the liberators, fought white domination but forgot black domination as opposed to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela who fought both, making the neighboring country of South Africa be the center of Africa, this possibly being the reason as to why former president Mugabe maintained a vice like grip on the bleeding nation.
Inextricable times are now a thing of the past for the Zimbabweans but lest they not forget they still need a president, the biggest problem being all the candidates used to play with the 93 year old dictator but still, one step at a time, and Zimbabwe can only hope for a more perfect union

Crossing Borders Sc****ly Clad -

By Michelle Sandisile Dube

"When someone asks where I am from I give a two-prong answer- Zimbabwe, north of South Africa. I do this because 90% of the time I get asked where that is. It is not likely to meet someone who has even heard of Zimbabwe unless they follow politics. Being asked for the location of my country is at the bottom of the list of “interesting” questions I have been asked.

I didn’t need to be in America for too long before I was swarmed with the most shocking questions that left me wondering. The following is one of those:

"Did you buy your clothes at the airport when you got here?"....

Elections Game Plan

By HDN

As a Zimbabwean, I have gotten used to our President doing cabinet reshuffle which is always characterized by the same old faces changing posts and the country is put again into the hands of those who have failed it. However, this recent cabinet reshuffle has really got my attention and NO it’s not because of the new ministry of Cyber Security, Threat detection and Mitigation but of some appointments which represent the ZANU PF Elections end game.

Where do I start….

Ministry of Justice, legal and Parliamentary affairs, a portfolio which has been under VP ED Mnangagwa for years has been handed over to Major General (rtd) H.M. Bonyongwe the former Central Intelligence organization (CIO) boss, known on the streets as C10s. An organization who have driven fear into the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans and are alleged to have caused deaths and disappearance to those who opposed the current regime. With a controversial Attorney General under his ministry and with the President having been given the power to appoint the Chief justice, our Justice system pre-and post-elections is pivotal for the ruling party in effecting gross human rights abuses and getting away with it at the courts as they did with the land reform having put through a new chief justice who over-turned all rulings in favor of the white farmers. Is it still safe to call it Ministry of Justice?

Ministry of Home affairs, this portfolio is now under the hands of the one and only Obert Mpofu, who never answered to the questions of the missing $15bn when he was Minister of Mines....
