π Meet the first woman Chief in Malawi that stopped 3500 child marriages in her first term.
Theresa Kachindamoto left her job as a college secretary to become the first female chief of her Ngoni clan in Malawi.
What she discovered was heartbreaking-girls as young as 12 were being forced into marriage because of poverty and tradition. Determined to make a change, she took action.
She gathered village leaders, banned child marriages, annulled existing unions, and removed chiefs who refused to comply. Kachindamoto shut down initiation camps, trackeo school dropouts, and even personally helped pay school fees so girls could return to class. In just her first three years, she ended 850 child marriages, and that number grew to more than 3,500 over time. βHer belief is simple but powerful, thus educating a girl not only changes her life but transforms an entire generation. Through her tireless efforts, Kachindamoto has brought significant change, offering countless young girls hope and a chance at a brighter future.β
