Clive Stockil -Conservationist
In the south east of Zimbabwe, Africa, lies the Save Valley Conservancy, (SVC), a wildlife reserve of semi-arid wilderness.... monumental granite kopjies, golden savannah, ancient leadwood forests and baobab trees, this tantalizing territory is home to endangered Black and White rhinos, African hunting dogs, elephants, buffalo, lion and a host of other species. As an annex to the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area (GLTFCA) this lowveld area is also home to artist Lin Barrie and her life partner, Clive Stockil. Based at Senuko Ranch in the SVC, and at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge on the edge of Gonarezhou National Park and Malilangwe Trust, Clive Stockil was chairman of the Save Valley Conservancy for 19 years. Lin and Clive share each others lives and are commited to making a difference to the conservation of endangered wildlife, and community cultures.
Expressing her hopes, fears and love for special ecosystems with her paintbrush, and in her poetry, Lin Barrie believes that the essence of a landscape, person or animal can only truly be captured by direct observation.
Lin holds a diploma in Fine Art (printmaking) from Durban Technikon, and has done a creative writing course with the University of Cape Town GetSmarter programme. Lin expresses her passion for the natural world; animals, landscapes and culture; with her art and poetry.
Lin says ".... each of us has a vital role to play as strands in this greater web of life. Diversity and linkages between people, plants and animals are insurance for the future of our earth."
Lin collaborates with her daughter Kelli Barker, a professional Make Up Artist, and fellow Zimbabwean creatives, to create exhibitions combining her canvas artworks and Kelli's body paintings. She also collaborates with Painted Wolf Wines to create wine labels and fund raising events for Painted Dog Conservation and African Wildlife Conservation Fund, benefitting African Wild Dogs.
Tusk Trust, and the Save Valley Anti Poaching Unit are some recipients of funds raised from Lin's paintings.
