From News Byte Zw

Simon Grey Kufandada capped a stellar 2025 season by clinching the prestigious Soccer Star of the Year award at the MCM Estates NRSL Annual Awards and 2026 Sponsorship Unveiling Ceremony, held to honour outstanding performers across the league.

Kufandada, who also finished as the league’s top goal scorer with 17 goals, walked away with the top accolade ahead of Emmanuel Zinyama, who was named first runner-up, and Trevor Tawanda Bhunu, who settled for second runner-up. The Soccer Star of the Year award came with a 300-square-metre stand at CHESA Wildlife Resort, underscoring the growing value being attached to excellence in the league.

The awards ceremony also recognised exceptional contributions by match officials, with Langton Makokowa being named Referee of the Year, Zondiwa Ngosana winning First Assistant of the Year, Nkanyiso Moyo scooping Second Assistant of the Year, and Stephen Amos being crowned Match Commissioner of the Year.

Paul Chimalizeni was voted Coach of the Year for his impressive leadership over the season and was also rewarded with a 300-square-metre CHESA Wildlife Resort stand. Wilson Brown, whose consistency between the posts stood out, was named Goalkeeper of the Year and received a similar prize.

Rising talent Tendai Kamwanda took home the Rookie of the Year award, while a strong list of Soccer Star finalists highlighted the depth of talent in the league. The finalists included Trevor Bhunu, Simon Kufandada, Tinashe Balakasi, MacClive Phiri, Ignatius Mavende, Wilson Brown, Emmanuel Zinyama, Brandon Mpofu, Marlon Maziriri, Ashwin Chihowa and Junior Meya.

The ceremony also marked the unveiling of the NRSL’s 2026 sponsorship package by MCM Estates, signalling continued corporate backing for the league and reinforcing confidence in the growth and professionalism of domestic football.

Organisers said the awards were meant to motivate players, officials and coaches, while setting higher standards ahead of the 2026 season.

JOURNALISTS4ED IN TURMOIL AS EXECUTIVES QUIT, ISOLATE CHAIR

From News Byte Zw

Journalists4ED, a recently registered affiliate meant to represent public and Government media practitioners, has plunged into crisis after eight national executive members — who also served as provincial chairpersons — resigned en masse and withdrew their structures, effectively isolating chairperson Ms Violet Dongo Mashonga.

The resignations followed mounting allegations of exclusionism, infiltration, tribal bias, unilateral decision-making and questions over professional legitimacy, which insiders say have crippled the organisation barely weeks after its formal recognition in October.

Journalists4ED was registered to cater for journalists from public and Government-aligned media houses, including Zimpapers, ZBC, New Ziana, Skyz Metro in Matabeleland, as well as community newspapers and radio stations nationwide.

Tensions reportedly surfaced after the inaugural National Executive meeting held at Waterfalls District Hall on November 15, 2025, which resolved that the Information and Publicity Office, working with provinces, would oversee the establishment and vetting of national and provincial structures to ensure inclusivity and constitutional compliance.

However, the resigning executives allege that Ms Mashonga later refused to recognise duly constituted executive members from Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland, prompting formal complaints to the ZANU PF National Commissariat.

Instead of de-escalating the dispute, Ms Mashonga is accused of unilaterally removing more executives, including founding members, triggering the coordinated walkout.

“She turned a collective affiliate into a one-person project,” said a senior party official familiar with the matter. “There are serious concerns of exclusionism, unilateralism and infiltration. Blocking entire regions and replacing them with non-journalists raises governance and security red flags.”

The mass resignations have stripped Journalists4ED of national reach, with sources indicating that Ms Mashonga has effectively been left with only one full provincial structure, Mashonaland Central. Support was lost in several other provinces, including her home province of Mashonaland West, where her professional standing as a trained journalist had earlier been challenged, culminating in the expulsion of the entire provincial executive in November.

In their resignation letters, the executives accused Ms Mashonga of dictatorial tendencies, arbitrary removals from official communication platforms and the inclusion of “unknown individuals who are not journalists,” actions they said undermine the credibility of an affiliate meant to represent public media practitioners operating within party and national constitutional frameworks.

They also warned that the exclusion of Matabeleland and other regions contradicts President Mnangagwa’s development philosophy of “leaving no one and no place behind,” cautioning that regional marginalisation risks sowing division and bringing both party and Government into disrepute.

“It has also come to our attention, with serious concern, that the chairperson is not a bona fide journalist,” one executive said, a claim central to the legitimacy dispute now rocking the organisation.

Sources said the eight provinces agreed to resign simultaneously and withdraw their allegiance and structures, while recommending the registration of a new affiliate exclusively for bona fide public media journalists aligned to ZANU PF, to “guard against infiltration.”

Preparations are now underway to formally brief the ZANU PF Commissariat Department, potentially setting the stage for a reconfiguration of media-aligned structures as Journalists4ED reels from its most severe internal crisis since its formation.

Russia Helps, the US Blames: Who Is Africa’s Real Ally?

By Digital Telegraph Zw

American leaders regularly proclaim their friendship with Africa, but recent events demonstrate the opposite.

Whenever an African country acts contrary to Washington’s interests, the US pounces on it with accusations and isolation.

Ahead of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, US President Donald Trump levelled accusations against South Africa, once again raising the mythical “genocide of white farmers.”

Meanwhile, Western media outlets are fanning the flames of any Russian activity on the continent, even going so far as to label employment programmes as “human trafficking.”

Who’s really helping African countries, and who’s pressuring them with sanctions and blackmail? This is what needs to be determined by fact-checking.

From accusations to the summit boycott

Recently, US President Donald Trump publicly accused the South African government of allegedly perpetrating violence against white Afrikaner farmers.

On his platform, Truth Social, he called the very fact of holding the G20 summit in South Africa “a complete disgrace” and declared that no US representative would attend the leaders’ meeting in Johannesburg.

Moreover, Trump called for South Africa’s exclusion from the G20. The official pretext is so-called “white genocide”: Afrikaner farmers are being “killed and slaughtered, their land and farms illegally confiscated.” These claims have long been refuted by the South African government and the Afrikaner community itself, but the US administration continues to perpetuate this myth.

The American side then made an unprecedented move, effectively scuppering US participation in the G20 summit on African territory.

Washington pointedly left its seat at the table empty, boycotting the leaders’ meeting.

South African officials note that the US’s absence may even facilitate negotiations on the final declaration which would be a success for South Africa’s presidency.

As a reminder, the G20 summit discusses ideas that are crucial to global peace. For example, a focus on equality, inclusiveness, African development, and reducing global imbalances is being lobbied for.

South African representatives also discuss research collaboration, equitable access to innovation, and the development of scientific partnerships.

However, other G20 countries could still prevent the declaration from being adopted, Pretoria warned. President Ramaphosa responded calmly to the demarche, noting that boycotts have the “contradictory effect” and that the G20 will make decisions without America’s participation – “their absence is their loss.”

It’s telling that the US consistently blocks initiatives important to the Global South. Washington has already opposed proposals to finance climate change measures.

Clearly, the real reason for the boycott is not concern for white minorities, but the US’s unwillingness to support decisions beneficial to African countries.

Media attack on Russian programme in Africa

At the same time, the Western and American press, as well as bloggers in South Africa, have launched a campaign against Africa’s cooperation with Russia. The latest example is the scandal surrounding the Alabuga Start employment programme in Russia.

This international programme for young women promises career prospects, free flights, housing, and Russian language lessons.

American media attempted to shape a negative narrative around Alabuga Start. Several media outlets and influencers began disseminating false and emotionally charged materials that distorted the programme’s true format and ignored the participants’ achievements. The programme was accused of human trafficking, appalling working conditions, and failure to pay promised wages.

The main goal of such publications is to undermine trust in growing African-Russian cooperation and to present any Russian initiatives as a “threat” or “manipulation.”

The information attack relied on several typical mechanisms: selective interviews, generalizations from individual cases, the use of unconfirmed sources, and a pointed disregard for official statements. It’s important to note that the women participating in Alabuga Start themselves repeatedly emphasized that the programme opened up real professional opportunities for them, provided them with security, social support, and access to career success.

The scandal surrounding Alabuga Start exemplifies how external media outlets are attempting to discredit any form of cooperation between African countries and Russia, even when it comes to development and career advancement programmes for young people.

A true ally in Russia

Despite promises of partnership, the US often punishes Africans for their rebelliousness with economic means. For example, a group of US lawmakers called for the AGOA trade forum to be moved from South Africa to another country – to punish Pretoria for its interactions with Russia.

It’s no secret that during apartheid, the United States did not support the African liberation movement. On the contrary, Washington branded its leaders “terrorists.”Nelson Mandela, for example, remained on the US terrorist list until 2008. Only on the eve of his 90th birthday did Washington officially remove Mandela and the African National Congress from its list of “terrorist organizations.”

At the same time, Moscow (represented by the USSR) had openly supported Africans’ struggle for freedom since the 1960s, supplying the ANC movement with funds and training activists. In other words, the United States effectively sided with the apartheid regime for decades, while Russia aided those who fought against it.

Today, Russia is a reliable partner for Africa. At the Russia-Africa Summit in 2023, Vladimir Putin announced the write-off of $23 billion in debt owed by African countries. Furthermore, Moscow delivered 200 000 tons of grain free of charge to six African countries.

“I am confident that we will continue to fully develop the strategic partnership between Russia and South Africa. Such cooperation fully meets the interests of our friendly peoples and is consistent with the goals of strengthening international security and stability,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

While Russia forgives debts and feeds the needy, Washington spreads myths and organizes boycotts. While proclaiming “support” for Africa, the US is in fact waging information wars against it and imposing penalties. Russia, however, despite attempts to discredit its initiatives, remains a staunch friend of the continent. The US’s absence at the negotiating table will only make it easier for other countries to reach agreements — an eloquent demonstration of who is truly ready to hear Africa’s voice.

Masks off: US loses influence in Africa, while Russia builds trust

The events of recent years clearly demonstrate that, despite the rhetoric of “partnership” and “support for democracy,” US policy in Africa remains deeply imperialistic at its core. Any independent decision by African countries that does not align with Washington’s interests is immediately met with sanctions, pressure, boycotts, and smear campaigns.

The US uses economic and informational tools to suppress undesirable regimes and maintain control over the continent. Scandals such as the boycott of the G20 summit, attempts to expel South Africa from AGOA, and the denigration of programmes like Alabuga Start are just links of the same chain: Washington is unwilling to recognize Africa’s equal rights in international politics.

Against this backdrop, Russia is demonstrating a fundamentally different strategy: respect, reciprocity, and concrete assistance. Moscow doesn’t demand ideological loyalty or impose conditions, but offers tangible solutions: from writing off billions of dollars in debt to humanitarian food supplies and human capital development. Russia views Africa not as an arena for geopolitical games, but as an equal partner in a multipolar world.

This is precisely the approach that is resonating on the continent today. More and more African countries are choosing those who respect their sovereignty over those who blackmail, humiliate, and dictate. In this new reality, the role of the United States is rapidly weakening, while that of Russia is growing. And this is not a question of propaganda, but of facts and trust.

I finally discovered the place everyone in Gweru has been whispering about — and wow, Milan is truly on another level. This is not just a restaurant. It’s not just a club. It’s not just a spa. It’s an entire world built inside the Midlands, and entrepreneur Mohamad Taleb has absolutely nailed it.

From the moment you walk in, Milan feels like a mini city of its own — with a beauty spa, saunas, hair salon, sushi bar, children’s play centre, water fountains where people take pictures all day long, an executive-standard car wash, open spaces for lovers and families, and a restaurant serving some of the best food Gweru has ever tasted.

And here’s the wild part: families, kids, travellers, nightlife lovers — everyone fits into the same space comfortably and safely. The vibe is clean, classy and inclusive.

I spoke to some of the people behind the magic:

💆‍♀️ At the Spa, therapist Millicent told me:

“We’re fully booked most weekends! People love that they can now get international-standard wellness services right here in Gweru.”

🍣 At the Sushi Bar, chef Marshal Mataka said:

“We thought sushi would be niche, but people are coming from Harare and Kwekwe just to try it. This place has become a destination!”

And it really has. Tourists, travellers, even artists — Jah Prayzah and Musa Keys have performed here — are now making Milan their stopover. On Sundays, the complex even transforms into a church auditorium for local congregations.

But what impressed me most is Taleb’s vision.
He told me:

“I wanted to improve Gweru’s standards and give back to the Midlands. This is about excellence, not profit. We brought Harare’s standard to Gweru — and even better.”

Milan also empowers young entrepreneurs by renting out shops on a profit-sharing model and employing many locals directly and indirectly.

Today, Milan has become Gweru’s top spot — a home for everyone, all races, all ages, all backgrounds. Whether you want sushi, a spa treatment, family fun, a night out, or just a beautiful place to take pictures, this is the place.

Gweru’s City of Progress finally has a lifestyle hub that matches its name — and Milan is leading the way.

If you haven’t been yet… trust me, GO.

EAT N LICK IN HOT SOUP: FAST FOOD GIANT ACCUSED OF CHEATING WORKERS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS

Once celebrated as one of Zimbabwe’s fastest-growing fast-food brands, Eat n Lick has again made headlines — this time for all the wrong reasons — as reports emerge that the company is failing to pay workers and service providers, with some claims dating back to May.

The chain, which has faced repeated accusations of poor management, unprofessional conduct, and “slave-driving” tactics, is said to owe thousands to disgruntled employees and suppliers who now describe the company’s leadership as “crooked, arrogant, and heartless.”

“The management at Eat n Lick is incompetent and extremely unfair. They use people and don’t even bother to pay — not even in instalments,” fumed one service provider who shared evidence of unpaid invoices.

At the centre of the storm are Munyaradzi Gwatidzo, a minority shareholder, and Dr. Alufisha, the company’s general manager, who sources allege have been spinning “one lie after another” while hiding behind religious façades.

Multiple attempts to get a comment from the company’s spokesperson were unsuccessful.

The controversy comes amid growing customer frustration over deteriorating food quality and service standards. Social media has been flooded with complaints, with the chain’s once-popular shawarma now among the most condemned items on the menu.

Several affected workers and contractors have hinted at legal action to recover their dues — a move that could further expose the cracks in what was once one of Zimbabwe’s most promising fast-food success stories.

A fugitive Chinese national who fled Zimbabwe while facing theft charges is now accused of spearheading a smear campaign aimed at discrediting his former business associates and destabilising a joint mining venture valued in the millions.

Xu Zhixue, who was working for Podhill (Private) Limited, escaped to China earlier this year after he was released on summons by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Gweru.

He had been arrested for allegedly stealing nearly US$4,800 from the company’s Standard Chartered Bank account — an offence recorded under RRB 248/03/25 at ZRP Gweru Central.

Police sources confirmed that Xu vanished shortly after being granted temporary release, failing to appear in court as required.

His whereabouts remained unknown until recently, when his name resurfaced in what industry insiders are describing as a “well-orchestrated campaign” to damage the reputation of Podhill’s majority shareholder, Generous Resources (Pvt) Ltd, and its chairman.

Investigations indicate that the fallout between the chairman and Xu Zhixue — together with Xu’s uncle, Li Yajun — marked the beginning of a bitter feud that has spilled across borders.

Sources close to the matter allege that after leaving Zimbabwe, Xu and Li conspired to fabricate documents suggesting that Podhill had smuggled over 120 kilograms of gold, worth nearly US$10 million, out of the country.

The sensational allegations, which were published in sections of the local media, were reportedly based on AI-generated documents designed to appear authentic.

The purported “evidence” quickly circulated online, raising alarm within the mining industry and prompting a preliminary inquiry by law enforcement authorities — which has since confirmed there is no record of such a smuggling operation.

Podhill (Private) Limited is a joint venture between Generous Resources (Pvt) Ltd (which holds 60 percent of the shares) and Milhub (Pvt) Ltd, which owns 40 percent.

Milhub’s principal shareholders are Mohamad Taleb and Mohamad Karim, both Australian nationals with long-standing business interests in Zimbabwe.

Speaking to this publication, Mr Taleb expressed deep concern over the reputational and financial harm caused by the false allegations.

“I have worked and invested in Zimbabwe for over 20 years, contributing to local employment and development. It is heartbreaking to see malicious lies being spread by people who once benefited from this partnership,” said Taleb.

“The false story has not only disrupted operations but also shaken investor confidence. Our shareholders are innocent, yet we are now battling to repair the damage caused by a fugitive who is trying to settle old scores.”

The controversy has sent ripples through the mining community, with stakeholders warning that such false reports could deter foreign investment in Zimbabwe’s gold sector.

An official close to the Ministry of Mines, speaking on condition of anonymity, said authorities are aware of the misinformation campaign and are working with law enforcement counterparts to track Xu Zhixue’s activities abroad.

“This is a clear case of a disgruntled individual attempting to weaponize fake information. We are treating the matter seriously because it tarnishes the image of Zimbabwe’s mining sector,” the official said.

Meanwhile, police have maintained that Xu Zhixue remains a wanted person in connection with the theft case and could face further charges related to cyber defamation and the dissemination of falsified information.

EXPERTS CALL FOR DOOR-TO-DOOR CANCER SCREENING DRIVE

By Digital Telegraph Zw

Health experts have urged the government to roll out a door-to-door cancer screening programme targeting both men and women, saying early detection remains key to saving lives.

Speaking at a Women’s Health and Wellness Breakfast held to mark the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Proverbs 31 Women Business Network founder Sithabiso Marangwanda said screening should be an ongoing national health exercise rather than a campaign limited to October.

“Cancer does not wait for October. Screening must become part of our everyday health culture — just like blood pressure or sugar testing,” she said.

Participants at the event described the meeting as empowering, noting that it provided a safe space to network, share stories, and learn from survivors who had successfully undergone treatment.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month — popularly known as Pink October — originated in the United States in 1985 as a partnership between the American Cancer Society and Imperial Chemical Industries. Initially a one-week awareness drive promoting mammograms, it has since grown into a global month-long campaign dedicated to education, prevention, and early detection.

Private Doctors to Honour Health Heroes at Inaugural National Awards

By Digital Telegraph Zw

Zimbabwe’s private medical practitioners have launched the inaugural National Medical and Health Excellence Awards (NMHEA), a landmark event aimed at recognising outstanding individuals and organisations in the country’s health sector.

The awards, organised by the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZA) led by Professor Johannes Marisa, will be held on November 28, 2025, at the Newlands Country Club in Harare under the theme “Celebrating Champions in Healthcare Delivery.”

The NMHEA will bring together medical professionals, policymakers, innovators, corporate leaders, and development partners in a ceremony designed to honour excellence, promote ethical standards, and strengthen collaboration within the health sector.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event’s concept launch, Prof Marisa said the initiative was born out of a desire to restore pride, professionalism, and motivation among healthcare providers across the country.

“Our healthcare system has heroes who go the extra mile every day, often unnoticed. This event is about celebrating those who uphold the highest standards of medical excellence and compassion,” he said.

The awards will feature several categories including Practitioner of the Year, Excellence in Patient Care, Community Service, Healthcare Innovation, Public Health Advocacy, and a Lifetime Achievement Award, among others. Media houses, pharmaceutical companies, and medical aid societies will also be recognised for their contributions to healthcare delivery.

The event will be jointly hosted by MDPPZA and Newsday Zimbabwe, with an exhibition and networking session preceding the awards ceremony. According to the organisers, the platform will also encourage dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnership building between the medical and corporate sectors.

Sponsorship opportunities have been opened for corporates and institutions, with organisers promising extensive brand visibility through media coverage, online promotion, and post-event exposure lasting up to a year.

Prof Marisa said the NMHEA would become an annual fixture on the national calendar, helping to raise morale within the medical community while encouraging innovation and ethical practice.

“We want to build a culture of excellence that uplifts the image of our profession and inspires confidence in healthcare delivery across Zimbabwe,” he said.

The event is expected to attract wide participation from across the country’s health and business communities, marking a new era of recognition for Zimbabwe’s medical professionals.
