My late stepmother bequeathed me a $3 million mansion, WHILE HER OWN KIDS ONLY RECEIVED $4,000 EACH.
When I was 10, my mother passed away due to a brief illness. A couple of years later, my father married Helen, who had three children: Lisa, Emily, and Jonathan.
From the very beginning, I felt "extra baggage." They ridiculed me, while Helen overlooked my existence. Although she wasn't unkind, she never expressed affection.
At 18, following my father's death, I gathered my belongings and left.
Now, fast forward to today. Two decades have gone by — I’ve gotten married and built my own life. No one reached out to me during that time.
Then, I received a call from the lawyer.
Helen had passed away. He invited me to the reading of her will. It felt odd since I had always been the outsider, yet I decided to attend.
The attorney's words hit me like lightning:
"To my stepdaughter, Anna, I LEAVE MY HOUSE on Lakeview Drive, worth approximately $3 million. IT'S THE LEAST I CAN GIVE HER AFTER WHAT I DID."
Then:
"To my children, Lisa, Emily, and Jonathan, I leave $4,000 each."
All at once, chaos ensued.
Lisa shouted: "WHAT? You forged the will!"
Jonathan banged on the table: "Mom's gone crazy with old age!"
When it was over, I made my way to Lakeview Drive.
I had never been invited there — it was my first glimpse of the house.
So I stepped inside, searching for clarity. On the kitchen table sat a sealed envelope bearing my name in Helen's tidy handwriting.
My hands shook as I opened it:
"Dear Anna, if you're reading this, it's time you knew THE TRUTH." ⬇️
