Zimbabwe’s power generation picture has changed significantly over the past year.

In July, average daily generation reached 1,607 MW, compared with 1,504 MW in July 2025.

But the increase wasn't evenly distributed across sources. Kariba’s average daily contribution jumped by 94 MW, from 426 MW to 520 MW. Hwange added another 14 MW, while IPPs declined by 5 MW.

What does it mean to spend your working life outside Zimbabwe's formal employment system?

For millions of informal workers, the answer isn't simply “different working conditions.” Formal employment is also the route through which many workers access employment-linked protections such as pensions.

The data shows that informal employment is concentrated among people with lower levels of education: 84% of men and 84.5% of women who had never been to school were informally employed.

Among people with higher education, that fell to 23.9% for men and 17.5% for women.

The policy challenge is bigger than creating jobs. It's making sure workers aren't permanently excluded from the systems designed to protect them.

During the first half of 2026 exports to from Zimbabwe to Indonesia were valued at US$ 64m - up 127% from the same period last year.

Since 2021, Zimbabwe re-established its trading relationship with Indonesia which had faded during the 2010s. The trade relationship is built on the back of to***co production with Indonesia importing $75m worth of Zimbabwean to***co in 2025.

If you live in a city in Zimbabwe, there's more than a coin-flip chance you send money by phone — 56.2% of urban mobile users do. In rural Zimbabwe, that number drops to 35.3%. In Matabeleland North, it drops further to 27.4%.

Presently, our financial inclusion largely depends on geography.

A death certificate is more than a piece of paper.

Death registration creates an official record that can help families navigate legal and administrative processes, while aggregated death records help the country understand its mortality patterns.

But in 2024, only 54,256 of an estimated 116,414 deaths were registered in Zimbabwe.

When so many deaths don't enter the civil registration system, families can face gaps in official documentation while policymakers face gaps in the data needed to understand the country's health needs.

Just under 1 in 10 women who had never had an intimate partner reported experiencing physical violence since age 15.Among women who were divorced, separated or widowed, that rose to nearly 1 in 2.

The data shows an association between relationship history and reported experiences of violence, but it does not tell us why the difference exists.

Nearly half of internet users in Zimbabwe say they stream or download music, videos, movies or games online. By comparison, fewer than one in five use email, only 7% seek information from government institutions, and just 4% interact with government services online.

The figures suggest that while internet access continues to expand, the country's digital economy still has significant room to grow beyond content consumption.

There's a quiet transformation happening in Zimbabwe's chilli industry.

Record export earnings are no longer being driven by fresh produce. Instead, dried, crushed and processed chillies are powering growth, while fresh exports have nearly disappeared. At the same time, exporters are becoming less reliant on a single buyer, reducing one of the biggest risks facing agricultural exports.

The numbers suggest Zimbabwe isn't just exporting more chillies—it's exporting them differently.
