Survivors give a narration of events leading up to the RIDA boat capsizing in Kariba

On 11 August 2026 at around 10:00 PM. Nyasha Bvongwe(32) , was outside his house smoking a cigarette while his brother Simba Bvongwe (29) was inside fixing a base bed with a kitchen knife.

Simba then asked Nyasha about food and discovered that Nyasha had eaten everything and had not left any for him. This sparked emotions and an argument broke out between the two brothers.

In the heat of the argument, Simba allegedly grabbed the same kitchen knife he was using and stabbed Nyasha once in the stomach, inflicting a deep cut.

After the attack, Simba fled the scene, leaving his brother heavily bleeding.

The matter was reported to ZRP Sakubva and Nyasha was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where he is currently admitted .The accused is currently at large and police are appealing to members of the public with information on his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

The ZRP reports that a DDF boat with an estimated ninety passengers and five crew members has capsized in Lake Kariba.

In a statement released earlier today, the ZRP says rescue efforts are currently underway.
