**๐Ÿ›‘ Is Hauna CBD Slowly Becoming a Shanty Town?**

Take a walk around Hauna CBD today and you'll notice something that's hard to ignoreโ€”new business cabins seem to be appearing almost every day.

First and foremost, let's be clear: **there is nothing wrong with supporting small businesses.** Cabins create opportunities, provide livelihoods, and help many families earn an income. Every entrepreneur deserves a chance to succeed.

But as Hauna continues to grow, we also need to ask some important questions.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ **Are all these cabin locations officially approved by Mutasa Rural District Council?**

๐Ÿ“ **Is there a proper town planning strategy guiding where these cabins are being placed?**

๐Ÿ’ต **Are cabin owners paying rentals, licence fees or levies to Council? If so, how much revenue is being collected?**

๐Ÿšง **Is that money being reinvested into improving Hauna CBD through better roads, drainage, refuse collection, street lighting and public facilities?**

A Central Business District is more than just a place to tradeโ€”it is the heart of our community and the face of our town. If development happens without proper planning, we risk creating congestion, sanitation challenges and an environment that discourages future investment.

This is **not** about opposing cabins or attacking the people trying to make a living. It is about ensuring that development is **orderly, transparent and sustainable**.

Hauna deserves to growโ€”but it should grow according to a clear plan that benefits everyone.

Mutasa Rural District Council has an opportunity to reassure residents by explaining:

* How cabin sites are allocated.
* Whether all structures have been approved.
* How much revenue is generated from cabins.
* How that revenue is being used to improve our CBD.

Open communication builds trust, and transparency benefits both businesses and the community.

**What are your thoughts? Do you think the rapid increase in cabins is good for Hauna's development, or should there be stricter planning and regulation? Let's keep the discussion respectful and focused on finding solutions for the future of our town.**

The recent stakeholder engagement meeting gave Hauna residents an opportunity to raise concerns about ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜€, ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜, ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ and the proposed ๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐Ÿฐ development.

The Blair toilet at Hauna Rank remains a concern because of an unpleasant smell that residents say has persisted for years.

Residents raised concerns about donated incinerators reportedly overflowing with used diapers and other waste.

The big question was:

Council highlighted non-payment of rates as one of the challenges affecting service delivery. Annual rates are reportedly around ๐—จ๐—ฆ$๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฐ, but many residents are still not paying.

Residents, however, want payment of rates to be matched by

Phase 4 was one of the biggest issues discussed, as many attendees came from potentially affected households.

The meeting provided an important platform for residents to raise their concerns, but many commitments were made
