Slowly coming to life.
Advokate I joins the fight against drug abuse
RISING international reggae musician, Gabriel Muchanyu (29) a.k.a Advokate I,says the wide spread of drug abuse in the country will not only slow national development of the country but rather continue to burden the health sector indirectly.
The Torwood based artist said many young and intelligent youths who are supposed to be working in building the country's economy are sucking from its potential by spending much of their time in medical centres, seeking treatment.
"Many of the youths who are falling into the culture of drug abuse end up stressing the health sector.
"Instead of making meaningful contributions they end up becoming manacles in their communities," He said.
In dealing with the challenge the musician said he has established a self funded platform in his community for a start.
"With support from local civic leaders, Wilson Entertainment and Trapavelli Music we have come up with a programme called Chilling nema Youth Acoustics."
"This is more than just musical movement regardless of music being its backbone. We are going to be using music, acoustic performances to relay key messages during our sessions.
"Art exhibition will also be part of this initiative, from paintings, drawings, sculpture, open mic,rap battles, qcapella and modeling," said Advokate I.
He said the program is organized by Dzemabweh Investments and run with the support of Redcliff Municipality who are custodians of the suitable venue available.
"Our sessions will be held on Saturdays between 10am and 4pm at Torwood Hall in Torwood, Redcliff.
"The initiative is targeted at teenagers, the youth and anyone who feel the need to be a change agent," he said.
Advokate I added that the idea is directed at stamping out wild and riots behaviors, violence, theft among other negative vices.
"If young people start thinking straight, making proper decisions it will see a change in the communities," said Advokate I.
