Highlights of the Pitch Day in Pelandaba

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." This Chinese proverb, quoted by Mr. Johannes Ndlovu, set the tone for an inspiring business masterclass during the Pitch Day event.

The event featured seven ambitious young entrepreneurs, each presenting innovative business ideas, some still in incubation, while others are already operational and seeking support for growth. The pitches covered diverse industries, including transportation, poultry farming, fitness (aimed at engaging youth and combating drug and substance abuse), event management, sound equipment supplies, and agriculture.

Although there was only one official winner, Bathandwa Khumalo, the real victory lay in the enthusiasm and determination displayed by all participants.

The strong turnout from the Pelandaba community played a crucial role in making the event a success. Their support and encouragement created a vibrant atmosphere, reinforcing the importance of community-driven entrepreneurship.

Congratulations once again to Thabiso Bathandwa Khumalo, and a heartfelt thank you to the Pelandaba community for rallying behind its young entrepreneurs.

We cannot wait to visit the next community for the next edition.

T. Bathandwa M.G. Khumalo wins pitch competition for innovative Agricultural Initiative in Hwange.

T. Bathandwa M.G. Khumalo has emerged as the winner of the recent pitch competition facilitated by Ilocate and Community Connect, marking a significant milestone for youth entrepreneurship in Zimbabwe.

His initiative, Ubiquity Farm Produce, is set to transform agriculture in Hwange by addressing the challenges posed by harsh weather conditions and wildlife threats.

By utilizing the Nyamandlovu Aquifer for irrigation, the venture aims to provide a reliable source of high-quality farm produce to local market owners and vendors, ensuring food security while fostering economic growth.

Ubiquity Farm Produce will focus on cultivating tomatoes, maize, beans, and leafy vegetables, supplying fresh produce directly to the Hwange market.

This pitch competition was part of the Community-Centric Business Masterclass series, an initiative launched in Pelandaba to provide young entrepreneurs with a platform to showcase their business ideas.

By winning, Khumalo will receive financial support and mentorship from Ilocate, giving him access to resources that will help refine and grow his initiative. Programs like this are instrumental in fostering innovation, allowing young business minds to turn challenges into opportunities.

The next pitch session is scheduled for April, and more young innovators will have the chance to step forward and present their ideas, further enriching Zimbabwe’s entrepreneurial landscape.
